    Cat shit

Umm..new 11 week old kitten we've had for a couple of weeks has started shitting on the carpet when we're out. Other 11 week old kitty who we've hand reared is fine. I've always had dogs so dunno how to fix this. Any non cruel, non-ridiculous suggestions appreciated.

Go back to using the kitty litter box.... but move it near the door.

As soon as kitty has eaten or woken up place kitty in the litter box.

Is the poo's more runny than usual..... if so maybe the food is too rich for the little one tummy. Dont give it milk unless it is either really watered down or kitten milk.
Bottled milk is too strong for some kittens as well.
(bottled milk that humans drink - blue, green, lite blue milk) - This is for the likes of Mully.

If the poo's is more runny than usual change the diet of what you are feeding it.
As some kittens tummys need a bit longer than others to develop.

If the kitten continues to do this get a vet to check it over.

When you say "non cruel" and "non-ridiculous" how flexible are you on that??

Can it be one or the other, or neither??

We always stopped ours doing it by rubbing their noses in it, they stopped, nobody likes the taste of shit (as far as I know).

Pretty much, they just need training. Is it a girl or a guy? Girl cats seem to take less time.

I understand that rubbing their noses is it has caused problems with some animals ... e.g. sense of smell being screwed for life etc. It is one way to deal but the kitty litter box and moving it slowly to the outside defiantely works.

really only thing to do is go back to the basics and start re-training this kitten. Does it shit in the same spot on the carpet? if so that is where you want to start out with the litter box.

Yup, thats exactly what I was going to suggest.

And yup, rubbing their noses in it has no ill effects
To every man upon this earth
    Death cometh sooner or late
And how can a man die better
    Than facing fearful odds
For the ashes of his fathers
And the temples of his Gods

But yeah.. as others have said.. go back to the cat litter tray & gradually move it towards the door, then outside. I heard a vet say years ago, that bottled milk for humans, is not good for cats! Buy some milk specially formulated for kittens! Just like kids, they all learn at different stages!
