Brownie Points

Hey guys and gals of two wheels

So the question is do you have to acrue brownie points to get out and ride (for those with partners/family commitments etc).

Just wondering how many of us out there have to barter to get a guilt free day of riding; and then pray for good riding weather.

I'm looking forward to our boys being old enough to sit on back - save having to get babysitters too. Our two boys love bikes already. Quite a few years to wait till they can reach the pegs mind due. DOH.

Gardening and painting rooms being done this weekend for hopefully lots of riding next weekend. Awesome!

I don't know how I manage to get as much riding in as I do. Family commitments in that strange asian way seems to take up much of my time!

I guess my brownie points accumulate in that yin/yang karmic way - I do the time and I get out on my ride! At this stage, I think everyone in my family knows I march to the beat of my own chinese drum!

I do all my filial duties without problems and take off whenever and where-ever I can. I understand the situation others find themselves in! I guess I put in those hard yards so I can ride without guilt and enjoy the pleasure that two wheels of freedom give me!

It's not a case of Brownie points. Family comes first, and the demands of work mean I only have 26 weekends a year I can go for a ride. From those 26, maybe 8 will have the planets align and let me get out the door.

Just so the single guys (and gals) know.... choose wisely ... then the issue of riding time never comes up...

Also helps if you pick one that has always wanted to ride but been too chicken.
Over the last 6.5 years my partner has gone from that to hesitant pillion to confident pillion to beginning the journey that is learning to ride.

Throughout all the good times and the bad she has remained a steadfast supporter and has never waivered on idea that if I quit riding she is leaving.

She is no longer my pillion in a million as she now rides herself.

There is an unwritten agreement between SWMBO and myself, that once a fortnight is an acceptable riding level. (Organised rides, not to and from work type riding...)

However, if a weekend is missed, then it is forfeit, and no, she will not allow missed weekends to roll over so if I miss a ride then tough bikkies, that's my lot for 2 weeks.

Awesome that your partner has a passion for bikes too now and rides! It's nice when a passion is shared, both of us love riding - I can imagine it would cause conflict when one doesn't like riding - and starts to resent the time spent riding (as "you could have been doing this with me" or doing chores!).

Ha ha ha. As if! Mrs Oakie loves her bike and it's always her that want to go for a ride. Perhaps I should make her earn brownie points?

Depends if theres anything else on. I've got a couple of cracking roads in my back yard, so I can always get a quick 1/2 hour- hour in if I'm hanging out. The wife is pretty understanding if she can see I'm hanging like a monkey to go for a ride with the boys and tells me to go. Probably cause she knows if she ever needs me to stay around she only has to say the word
