Mate, I could do it in 9 minutes on a Goldwing, in reverse.
Some things are worth dying for, living is one of them.
OK just so you can get this in perspective and let the w**kers do the numbers I've checked a few GPS tracks I had on my PC. Now remember I'm an old guy and some of the rides I do Mrs merv is on the back of the VFR and when you say bridge to bridge you're meaning the bridge before Kaitoke Country Gardens to the twin bridges on the 'rapa side right? I don't seem to have kept a straight through track but here's what I do have:
From Kaitoke Bridge to top distance is 6.61 km.
On this cruisy ride http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/sh...ad.php?t=47615 I did that in 6 mins 14 secs with Mrs on the back of the VFR and I don't think the traffic was light that day.
Average speed 64 kph.
From the top of the hill to the twin bridges is 7.19 km.
Same ride, that took us 9 mins 3 secs in heavy traffic and there a no passing lanes on that downhill.
Average speed 48 kph.
Total distance 13.8 km, time including slow down and speed up at top but not counting time stopped 15 mins 17 secs - about the same time Deano did it in the car, so yes a cruisy ride - average speed 54 kph.
To do it in 9 minutes you'd have to average 92 kph.
As a further comparison on this ride http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/sh...ad.php?t=48435 I took the XR250L and we only went to the top and back again, not down the 'rapa side. That day I did the 6.61 km to the top in 5 mins 19 secs for an average speed of 75 kph and that was in heavy traffic too. Solo on the VFR I probably would be quicker and light traffic would knock a lot off the time.
My conclusion would be that at my age I doubt I'd be a 9 min guy with a straight free run these days, probably more a 10 or 11.
Hope you enjoy the stats and you can figure out your own comparisons.
OK went away and checked the numbers - reverse direction on the same cruisy ride http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/sh...ad.php?t=47615 on the way home, Mrs still on the back (phew never lost her!!) 'rapa to top 7.19 km in 7 mins 1 sec at 61 kph, so over 2 mins faster, and top to Kaitoke 6.61 km in 6 mins 11 secs at 65 kph so only marginally faster on that leg - the uphills are definitely easier for passing the traffic.
Hey I wasn't breaking any records and well its against the law to go over 100 anywhere, but interesting all the same don't ya reckon.
Cheers
Merv
And I to my motorcycle parked like the soul of the junkyard. Restored, a bicycle fleshed with power, and tore off. Up Highway 106 continually drunk on the wind in my mouth. Wringing the handlebar for speed, wild to be wreckage forever.

Actually, the only time I didn't finish, I was going slow, which can only make me the favourite to go fastest.
But to be honest, I'm kinda over racing on public roads, so it'll have to wait till the cliffhanger, and I'll be riding my twenty year old fizzer, so it'll sting even more for anyone behind me
That makes no sense, but were there a personality contest, you should probably abstain altogether.
