I bought all booze from the shop there. found it to be average enough priced.
    I went with so-drunk-dont-feel-cold option
so much so I didn't even NEED a tent, just ask the other 2005'rs I was fast asleep outside
Ok, maybe not NEED but it helps.
The old so-drunk-dont-feel-cold option is dangerous and can lead to hypothermia and even death. I strongly advise youngins not to do this. Far better off eating well, using a hotty bottle and warm clothing etc. That way you're not so hungover in the morning that you cant pack up & ride home and you can remember all the best bits if you're not pissed out of your mind.

Yeah, totally agree on this one. Though it was never really my thing anyway. I embarrass myself enough as it is without outside help . . .

Aaaah...Cold Kiwi. The one thing I look forward to every year at the end of winter.
Hubby and I haven't missed one in the last 5 years, and certainly not going to start now.
He'd been going by himself before, until he met me: a chick that didn't mind being "one of the boys" for the weekend.
Have been pillioning on previous years, but now, I got my own beastie, I'll be getting there on my own steam! :Punk

Absolutely cannot wait!!!! Are we there yet???

A guy had one at the brass monkey a couple of years ago when the snow blew in at 12.30am. It stayed up where other tents blew over. It would be better with a zip up door rather than a tie together type to keep what warmth there is in.

The tip about stripping off before going to bed works a treat. I've been doing that for years when tramping or hunting. A good sleeping bag is essential. I have used 2 sleeping bags one inside the other in the past. Dry Thermal socks and a wollen hat will keep you warm.

Before I got my present bike I used a set of old paper sacks slung over the seat with gear in plastic bags and the tent tied across the back travelling two up with my son

In Auckland you can buy seconds in Wiarau Valley(Domminon Exporters I think) for $100-$200.[/QUOTE]

You're right Hovel, I bought Domex and they're good. Ours zip together for additional warmth!

Absolutely! Slightly different feel somehow to the Cold Kiwi, but just as awesome...

Now, I know it's a pretty "newbie" thing to say, but how do I go about meeting KBers at the Cold Kiwi?
I'm not going to re-launch the whole secret handshake thread, but I've never met any of you guys yet.

I'd feel like a bit of a d#$% walking up to people and asking: " you wouldn't happen to be going by the code name of...., would ya?"

I've had a quick hunt around the KB site - can't find where you get KB stickers or if you lot have caps or tees etc?

    That'd make life easy peasy!

    Thanks nadroj.

Pity they don't have any cloth badges to put on your jacket.

Anyone else thinking of getting a sticker? Seems silly to pay postage from the states just for one.

2005 I got in early (so I thought) so just sat on my bike with a kb hoodie on and within 30mins a kb'r came up and said you must be pyrocam and brought me over to their camp. Also its not out of cell reception so you can txt other kb'rs to find if theres a kb camp or always meet up beforehand and ride in together.

my cell is 021 47 76 76, i will have a black kb hoodie on see ya there!
I only posted this because of the global economic crisis
