Nice pics Tri Boy, I was very impressed with your Scambler at Whanga, first time I had seen one of those. We need to plan a trip based at Awakino sometime!

Bloody goats are being used as inteference runners.
Its smarter than your average sheep.
I'll get it..... and when I do, SHEEP SHANKS for tea.

Hope to have covered most of the back roads from Raglan to Awakino by spring.
I'm trying to link up as many good roads as possible, with a couple of loop sections
thrown in. Also to get info on any farm tracks that will link through to Owhango (close to National Park).

just remember to not pick fights with the farmers on your solo adventures around pirongias... we don't need them training their bulls to specifically chase adventure riders in the waikato...

    nice pics man

and I thought this was about 'All roads lead to Rome' in fact in Italy they do, whenever you see a road sign there is always another one pointing to Rome (and the distance)

Sorry for the title confusion.(they do sort of loop back for me).
Picked up three more Topographical maps of the district today. Should be able to make an interesting ride out of them. Screw winter though.
A good spring ride would be more enjoyable. Maybe stay in a little place like Aria, or Ohura, just to be different.

I work with a guy who has a farm North of Awakino (first left after the gorge) which in itself is a good road to ride down instead of going thru the gorge.

I might be able to arrange access to caves on his place, meant to be quite easy to walk into.

If you are ever planning to overnight at Awakino to explore the roads let me know.

That would be Taumatamaire Rd, my pick for fav adventure road on North Is.

I've done quite a bit of caving in the Mahoenui area; always after more landowners to arrange access. Can you PM me his name, please? (I do list speleology as an interest)
    Cheers,
    Colin

A grand view it is. Although I'm not a native of this district,(more Wanganui,Waitotara, region), its starting to show off its hidden treasures.
I really believe more road riders should look into this type of riding.
It easily doubles your options with regards to route planning, and the views/experiences are memorable.
