it realy amazes me, that this rule hasnt been out for some time, i always have an extinguiser at all meets, and we nearly used it not so long ago..
most people at the mo would be stuffed if anything caught on fire...

More than likely cause we dont have the foresight to think about it.
I used to have one all the time and every time it was used it was for somebody elses bike / pit area but i went broke buying extinguishers for everybody else so didnt bother getting one now im raceing again.
Slack i know but as i said , i havnt thought about it and will now be getting one.
It doesnt have to be a compulsary rule to be a good idea .
Ahhhhh now i get it , thanks for that.Originally Posted by roogazza

Sidecars have always had to carry one, which has seen some interesting moments when they've come loose and bounced down the track![]()
Fat load of good one in the pit garage will have when you can have a sidecar BBQ out on the track - Manfeild Nationals February 2007.
Why are we imposed with these rules when flag marshall posts aren't?? And even at a National meeting?? Are there double standards??
Is it still beastiality if ya fuck a frozen chicken??
hey big boy..
the VIC club have 15... (yes fifteen) 3kg and 2 real big ones....
they have had them for at least a year ( going by the service records)...
so crash and burn babe.. we can take photo's
AND
put out your fire... all at the same time!!!
we are THAT good ...now!![]()
what a ride so far!!!!
I'm not a racer but think it's odd to see some whines about having to have fire extinguishers near stored racing fuel!! I'm suprised it's only just becoming a rule and that people didn't have them when it wasn't.
If you use your one to save someone else or their stuff from their own mistake say no worries mate, thats X $'s or a new one delivered to my place thanks. If they have a problem with that they're a real dick and you shoulda let them burn (well, singe a bit) till they change their mind.
I'm selling my new riding gear!! Only worn a few times get a deal Kiwibikers!!

The rule has been around for some time - but not enforced, Its a good rule for sure even for when travelling to & from the track - its surprising how fuel containers can end up in strange positions in trailers & boots etc........![]()
Waiting for some info from MNZ re this rule.
From MNZ rule book
6-12-4 The provision of a suitable fire extinguisher is recommended in each riders pit.
27
Updates in bold print Updated – effective 1 July 2007
6-12-4a At all Road Race meetings a 1kg (minimum weight) sealed and operational fire
extinguisher must be visibly present in each riders pit area.
I had better go and get one then!

Personally my main concern is fuel related fires in our sport - as they can occur very quickly & flash-spread to catch other stuff alight including yourself & others in the blink of eye.
Powder doesnt screw everything (it does make one hell of a mess) - so you better own an air compressor to blow everything clean. (Hopefully your engine isnt running when you have to pull the pin on one)
Electrical fires are less common but certainly possible (particularily around regulators , it pays to mount the regulator in a place where it gets plenty of cool air & also a place that you can get at it quick if you need to put it out).
No doubt others have had other experiences & have their own suggestions on what might safest. There is a motor racing / automotive standard type - so one would assume that that would be the likely choice.
