    Confused - NZ insurance

This will go for the bike when it arrives, but at the moment just buying a car, and want to know about insurance in the UK it is illegal to drive without at least third party insurance cover. But i am getting the idea from some threads on here that thier is no obligation to have motor insurance in NZ. is that correct and how does it work.

No obligation at all to have insurance .. rather dumb to have nothing ... but they leave it up to you

Correct, no insurance as such is needed - I would recommend fully comp or 3rd party fire/theft cover as a minimum tho' - it costs peanuts compared to the UK!

Fully comp helps if an uninsured driver hits you, and also if you get a cracked windscreen (happened to me recently, just after I paid $100 more to get fully comp cover)

Correct, no obligation, but mad not to. The reality is too many idiots have no insurance, so you really need it. Otherwise in an accident you lose your pride and joy/transport/whatever and have no way of getting it fixed unless it comes from your own pocket, because 6 out of 10 drivers have no money and no insurance for you to claim on. If you have your own insurance then you are covered and all you need is to give the insurance company the name of the driver at fault, they will then go after them for the money. Unless of course, you are the driver at fault.

Do a search on here for the insurance threads and see what companies or brokers are recommended....there are some that have specialist motorcycle policies and are usually cheaper than what you could get through the company you insure house/contents with.
