Cop told me to hide my reg

ok so I have done the search and come up with "should i glue my reg on", but heres my prob, was riding along jackson st and the police car behind me pulls me over, the officer comes up and says "I stopped you because your reg is covering part of the licence plate", any way after a quick discussion he says the best way to fix it is turn my holder around effectivly hiding it, when i pointed this out to him he said "we wouldnt worry about not seeing your reg. has anyone got there reg hidden? Do you have problems with the police pulling you up for it? & any ideas for a better place to mount it

Mine used to be sammitched between my l-plate and my WOF tag.
Recently relocated to the side of my chainguard, thanks to cyclespot, now WOF is only problem.
Been breath tested several times and randomly stopped without a hitch on both variants.
Some people just can't seem to comprehend that they do not have the right to be unoffended in their lives.

My Hyo - has that same mounting, but it is attached to the bottom of the plate.

My new bike has the rego on the reverse side of the plate. off to one side. The consensus is that the reg/wof must be displayed on the bike in such a manner as to be easily readable, without having to touch the bike in any way shape or form.

So looking at your picture, you could mount the holder vertically behind your plate on one side, and it would still be readable if when checked they were able to bend down and look behind the plate....

Or simply put it under your seat.

thanks guys! seems the general idea is that the cop was right, ill just take it of, turn it round and screw it back to the underside of the plate, just wanted to check, new to road bikes, and i know the cops dont like being able to see the reg on your cage

edit: no room under my seat, thats where i keep my L plate

Yea then again the world might end tommorow eh,38 years riding and approx the same number of bikes the regos always been under the seat or passenger hump,in that time ive been pulled over for sure, when asked to show them the rego ive obliged and as i said never a problem.Put it on the other side of your plate if you must but generally it will end up fucked from the shit thrown of your rear wheel.

Parking attendants cause more grief than those "Otago supporters" in their blue and gold signwritten cars. Two minutes after the HP pull you over, they know more about you, than you do.

Personally I don't see the point of having the need to display a rego or wofs in todays world of technologly the cops have already radioed in and know more about the bike than you do before they pull you over, if it is regoed and wofed reported stolen... running low on gas and you need more air in your rear tyre

However mine is behind the plate to the side on the guard and the wof is on the other side.

For many years (years ago) I use to keep them in my wallet... especally the WOF as said to mr plod, after 2 months out in all weather (back than I was out in all and riding all day too ) I could never read the wof as it always faded...and when my wallet I can read so I know when its due...

funny you should say that, my wofs behind the plate on the left side, covered in so much grease there's not a hope in hell of reading it

Yes it is an issue. I bought a holder with a longer bracket so it wouldn't obscure the number plate.

On my last bike I also kept it under the seat without any problems.

Yup, thats one of the reasons. Parking wardens can ticket a vehicle, car or bike, for failing to disply a wof or reg, if they can not easily see or read the sticker...... If your not there to lift your seat and show em, they might issue a ticket....

And there are people out there who are not so obliging, unlike your good self.....

I've got one of the long plastic holders, its bolted to the back of my number plate, at the top. This means its mostly hidden behind the plate, and back to back inside, are the wof and rego.

Yes, it gets covered in muck, and good luck reading it, but I'm not fussed. I can't get pinged for not displaying it as near the back as practicable, and it doesn't hide the plate or stick out. Tucked away nicely, without being hidden out of sight.
