Speedo readings?

Hey all, My bike reads in MPH (its an analogue unit, not a digital reading) and I would like it to read in kms, is it possible to get an inlay for it that I can just replace, or would I need to replace the whole unit. If I replace the whole unit with a second hand one that is in KM's, is it possible to adjust the trip so it is accurate?

My grandad years ago had a VW that read in just miles...he simply had marked where 50km/h and 80km/h were so he wouldnt break the speed limit....simple really

My old 1995 Fireblade had Mp/H plus hardly noticeable KM/h. I used to just use tape to indicate the 50, 80 and 100km/h.

I think swapping the whole unit will not work you gonna have to take it to someone to get it recalibrated.

just start changing all the speed signs to MPH on the side of the road as ya go

Ebay mate. You can buy simple clear stickers that stick over the speedo. I had a VFR400 in the UK which read in KPH, got a simple sticker round clear plastic with numbers on the outside to change in MPH

You could once buy this lettering transfer stuff called Letraset. It was a sheet of waxy paper with numbers, letters, and symbols. You would just put position the sheet and rub with a pencil, and ta-da instant lettering. I searched trademe and found only an expired auction (below) but if you dig around you might find something.

There was a bunch of conversions we used to know by heart ;

50k=30m, 70k=40m, 80k=50m, 100k=65m, 130k=80m, 160k=100m, 220k=130m.
Those were the important ones anyway. I don't even know if those are accurate.. ;-)

The same year that they teach you that the word "they" has a "y" at the end.

I know the conversion, 60mph = 96km 30mph = 48kmh blah blah, but would just like to change it

They're pretty close, the conversion factor from mph to km/h is 1.61 so 70km/h is closer to 44mph.

Remember you're getting close to walking home at 85mph (137km/h) on the open road!

Depends on what country you come from...

Touché none-the-less, I was unduly rushed in my typing.

If you want to change your speedo to metric you should be able to get the genuine replacement item from the manufacturer. I suppose you could do an overlay - but I must maintain that it is both cheaper and less of a hassle to just do the conversion in your head...
