    However, in this case I'm not sure what you're trying to say.

    I have not said anywhere in this thread that any rider is fastest.
    The comment you copied was merely pointing out that "the fastest rider on the planet" had come third. Is that not true?

    We may never know BUT Rossi managed to win the world championship on one of those wicked 500cc two strokes - and my understanding is they were REALLY HARD to ride.

    He made the transition from 500 2ST -> 900/800 4ST, Honda -> Yamaha

    So is Stoners' bike - ask anyone else that's ridden it.

    The issue aint to deny that Rossi is probably the greatest, it's more to give Stoner due credit. And to kick Stoner knockers in the goolies as and when required

    Nah at the end of the day this thread is about who is the fastest???

    Agostini or Hailwood...one won more championships and GP's but it don't make him the fastest.

    Freddie or Eddie...as above

    Rainey or Schwantz...as above 'cept for wins

    Rossi or ???? no one has consistantly challenged him until now.

    We are blessed to be witness to the current Championship battle taking place.Not since late 80's early 90's has the GP grid been packed with potential race winners.Enjoy it.

    Does'nt matter anyway as Doohan woulda whipped all of em.

    Maybe the fastest rider I've ever seen on a bike was the American Freddie Spencer. And the greatest single feat that I've seen was when Spencer won the 250cc and 500cc world championships in the same season in 1985.

    So you see Oscar...it is TOTALLY ok and even quite NORMAL to have an opinion on who you think the FASTEST racer you've ever seen on a motorcycle may be. I've been to plenty of GP's over the last 18 odd years...and I've personally NEVER seen the sort of speed I've seen Stoner show us. Ben Spies looks nearly as fast to me too. Looking forward to seeing him on a GP next year!!

    Tell you something else for nothing...I've raced against a lot of fast guys too...and THE FASTEST guy I've ever locked horns with is Bruce Ainstey.

    Fastest...it's really not that hard to get your head round if you try.

    How can you tell? What are you looking for?

    At Phillip Island last year, observing from various places around the track during the practice sessions, I couldn't always tell whether a red Ducati going past was ridden by Stoner or Melandri, except by reading the numbers. (It wasn't so hard during the race, as Stoner was at the front and Melandri was at the back.) On occasions I thought I could see that one rider looked fast where another rider looked slower, but I was probably just basing this on who I thought the rider was.

    So again, how can you tell who's fast?

    Crasherfromwayback Has a LOT bof personell riding/racing experience- Perhaps that is where his insight into who does and does not have it comes from?

    Don't mean to be nasty or smart...but if you can't tell the difference between two racers...one 3.2 secs a lap slower than the other...you need glasses.

    It's pretty easy to spot.

    I couldn't agree more.
    Stoner is the best thing that could have happened to GP racing, just look at all the bull s**t in this thread. Stoner has bucket loads of talent and raw ability. Just look at the quality of the other riders that have tried to tame the 800 Duke.
    Nicky Hayden told his brother "what ever they are paying Casey it's not enough."
    Stoner is not as popular as Rossi because;
    1- He is just a young wipper snapper
    2- He is an Aussie (this is a real hard one to get past)
    3- He is not Rossi.

    This is going to be one great season!!!!

    Have to agree totally with Pete's summation
    It's OK to disagree with me. I can't force you to be right.
