Bracket "racing"

Tossing an idea out there just to gauge interest.
Would anyone be interested in a "race" what you brung style of meeting.
4 classes only. 10 minute races meaning each class would get 4-6 "races" a meeting.
30 entrys MAX per class
classes being A grade-- 600cc or bigger /675 3 cylinder/open twin/ 4 strokes and 250 RACE 2 strokes
B grade 250 road 2 strokes,125 cc race 2 strokes -450 multi 650 twin multi valvve and 750 air coooled twins.
C grade 150 two stroke and 250 four stroke
D grade -OFF road based bikes (motards)

Heres the twist - Yes you grid up and yep full flag drop start.
But from there you are only duelling for bragging rights.
End of 10 minutes the flag drops and you figure out who was fastest between yaselves.
I figure each class would get 6 "races" in a day.

Tecnically its still a track day but it bridges a gap between a "normal" trackday and a real race meeting.

You know that'd really appeal to me - I could bring the wife's Balius and have a bit of a tangle in C grade without being bored of the slow speeds or worried about dropping the R1.

Be a better options than buckets for me too.

i think speed groups is better...

you get people new to 600's.... then you will have fast 600 boys out there as well, i know quite a few 600 riders who only want to take thier bike in slow group as it is thier road bike and they dont want to fang it and wreck it...

thats why racing is racing, and trackdays are trackdays.

Thats a cool idea! People could race without having to have a licence! Id do it....

You would have to be creative with the name of the event like call it a racer education track day or something so you dont have mnz or insurance issues...

Is there any ins co that still covers trackdays? Definite training days, yes...but not open trackdays.

The specifics of the groups Im none too worried about.
Its more the general concept.
Giveing people a taste of the difference between racing and a trackday AND for those already racing giving them controlled practice of those ever vital starts.
The concept is DEFINITELY for it to be a school type situation.
However run 100% like a race meeting -again the idea is so new racers know their way around when they get to a real meeting.

I think the secret is to be 100% open about the intention.
The way I see it theres people teetering on -do I don't I ? this if done right will piush em to --I DO.
ESPECIALLY if the likes of Billy and Oyster like the idea and use it for their development riders

I doubt the few insurance companies that are still prepared to cover track days would see the humour in it. As soon as you introduce a flag to start off a grid, they'll run a mile.

I did get excited at the thread title however, musch as it pains me to say, I agree with young Mark today. Races with clases based on lap times irrespctive of machine capacity are great fun to race in and much more interesting to watch.

The insurance thing isn't something Im too worried about quite honestly.The guys worried about their insurance arent the target market.

Happy to run basicly same groups as a track day if thats what people want.
Again the idea is to get relative to a real race meeting a LOT of track time and a lot of starts.
I even wondered about running a few 2 lap "races"- Out round grid up -flag drop-go--normal start of race argy bargy then in again.

I do wonder about doing a lap time based REAL race meeting too. doesn't matter what the bike is but each class is determined by the lap times.
allow a 5 second max "breakout" to stop burglars going into D grade and winning by a lap

Good on ya for thinking up some new ideas but.. Do you really think its a good idea for a whole grid(or close to it) of inexperienced starters trying a race start?

Might be better off having a lunchtime practice start session under lights or flag drop with plenty of room between the punters or send em off in a line of 3-4, circulate and pit

people are meant to have race licenses when going flat tit for a reason...
