10 K Rusty Nuts Super Tour.

Been waiting for this thread to start but gave up and did it myself....

Who's in, who's not and why not, why would you be stupid enough to do it or not.....and other general dribble on the subject.

    I am in.

10 day 10,000km Super Tour information sheet.

Entry is limited to 25 riders and 25 motorcycles.

Day one through to five will start and finish at Turangi

Day 6 will start at Turangi and go to Wellington to meet the 2.05 sailing to Picton (no midmorning sailing unfortunately)

This will arrive in Picton at approx 5.30 and riders will proceed direct to Timaru. Arrival is expected around 11.30 pm.
Riders will be given a specific route each day, and will require to pass through a secret checkpoint each day and also to collect some electronic till receipts when purchasing petrol.

Would really like to do it but there's a few things like cost and getting enough leave to do it. Maybe i'll win lotto between now and then...

Also concerned about my butt's staying power - the Southern Cross & GC are great but not sure if I could take a week and a half of 1,000km days...

Would be a great achievement though and hats off to all who complete it!

I had seriously intended to do this; until I saw the entry fee.

For the same price, I now intend to ship my bke to Aussie, do 10000 km in 10 days over there, then continue on and do a further 8000 km over the following 2 weeks. The cost of shipping my bike to Aus and doing the first 10000 km is the same as the entry fee to the Rusty Nuts event here.

    Interesting comments Malcolm.

My partner suggested that we head over to the US for a wee road trip to South Dakota and do Sturgis in 2010 instead. (same time off work and the entry fee would be close to the return airfare for both of us based on current fares)

Wont be able to hire a bike for any length of time but she wants to see Toby Keith and Mt Rushmore and I love traveling in the US.

So... wont be doing the 10k in 10 days... never mind.
    Next event...

Fatigue and the risks associated with this must be a real concern? Not just for the riders involved but other road users as well?
Doing 3000km in 5 days in a comfie car was hard enough.
10000 kays in 10 days on a motorsickle is just... well... eh... nuts.

Was tempted, but don't have the leave (work or home) or finances to do it.

Really got a blast out of the couple of 1000km days that I have done, but not sure that I have (actually pretty sure I don't have ) the staying power for 10 in a row.

1k days for me are great riding, and I will definitely want to be doing the next SCRR etc, but I know the 10k in 10 days is beyond me (and not quite sure why I would do it either)

To consider this at all, you need to have done the likes of SCRR, Grand Challenge, and other 1k trips in a day etc, in my opinion. Not for the casual riders at all, nor the faint hearted.

Ouch! I've just checked the entry fee out! Notwithstanding that, I'm sure they will get ample entries. We've just heard that we'll be in Bahrain for 2 years, so I'm off the hook!
