Where and how did you get your information about what roads in NZ are great rides?
And how did you carry that info with you?

AA Travel Atlas.
There is also a mcycle version available in Europe, not seen it here.
from this site, but we only had a car when there hired a sat nav wich got us where we needed to go![]()
Funny. I read "You just gotta do the Corro loop" in 'Motorcycle News' well before I came to NZ.
My Dad.. He used to ride in NZ 40 years ago! LoL.. other than that, I've some Kiwi friends over here, and I wanna come find out for myself..
Road maps? Hmmm.. Tend to follow my nose. Got a good sense of north and south, which has a tendancy to get thrown when I go south of the Equator (I've ridden in Brazil before) but life's much more fun if you see a road and think "that looks interesting" and follow it.. Not one for being a sheep and following the crowd.
Ha yep pretty much used the same trick myself, left wherever I was in the morning and headed in the general direction of where I wanted to go and had no plans or bookings so it didnt matter if I took some detours
My biggest mistake was going up and down the desert road twice to get from taupo to manfield

A few of our vistors from the UK who have come over her for riding holidays have already seen the Motorcycling Atlas of NZ which seems to be fairly common in bookshops over there.
Hi,
I'm heading your way in Jan for a three week motorcycle tour of both Islands.
I'm currently studying a copy of
NEW ZEALAND MOTORCYCLE ATLAS 100 TOP RIDES BY PETER MITCHELL.
I've had it for a couple of months so I'm not sure where I got it from. Probably saw it mentioned on this site or maybe ADV Rider. It looks good, will fit in a tank bag. The pages seem to be waterproof and tearproof and it's spiral bound.
Regards,
Kieran.
I got the NZ Motorcycle Atlas (by Peter Mitchell) for Xmas a couple of years ago. It is a great book. Show lots of great roads, marked motocycle friendly. It also shows certain trips in detail covering things like kms, gas stops, if cops sit on the road, points of interest etc. It fits in the tank bag easily and is spiral bound so can have page open to where you want. It is not water(Coffee) proof so put in a plastice bag when travelling. This atlas is readily available in most book shops here in NZ.
Speeding Safely!
I think I'll be there next year, and I found the first infos on AdvRider and on The Hubb, where I also knew this forum and some good title: "New Zealand Motorcycle Atlas" by Peter Mitchell, bought online as not available in Italy, and "Great Escapes" by Peter Mitchell, that I'm going to buy online again.
See you!
