    Power Commander?

Does the Power Commander make a difference, in any way, to a fuel injected bike? Just wana know is it worth it if i buy one

yes a power command can change the fuel mapping to give bike more/less fuel to improve performance, etc.

It won't make much difference as far as power goes - that's largely dictated by the mechanical bits of your bike. If you fit aftermarket bits (airfilter, zorsts) then you might gain a pony or two by having the injection remapped to suit them.
The biggest difference the Power Commander makes is giving you a smoother power curve (especially if you're fitted aftermarket bits), without the dips and spikes that are often present. Some of these are built in; for example, there is usually a lean part in the air/fuel ratio at the revs that emissions testing is done (usually around 5-6k rpm), and a corresponding steep bit in the curve where the fueling is richened up again as it comes out of the lean bit.
The other advantage of a Power Commander (and this is where the biggest gains are made) is that you can get a trained operator with a dyno to make a custom map for [I]your[I] bike's unique mechanical characteristics. No two bikes of the same model are exactly the same, but the factory fueling maps are a "one size fits all" solution, that may be too rich or too lean for your bike in places.
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....

When I was inquiring about a PC3 I was told that the device, with a custom map, would make a far bigger improvement than any slip-on exhaust system.

I didn't try the exhaust system on that bike but the PC3 (with custom map) definitely smoothed things out, and I also had the impression that the bike pulled harder further up the revs.

The custom map needs to be made by someone who knows what he's doing and has the gas analyser version of the dyno. The website lists (listed?) who has what model DynoJet.

We have got a "Dyno Jet" Dyno at Henderson Yamaha. Our service manager Gavin has many years experience tuning bikes on the Dyno. He worked at AMPS for years tuning bikes on their Dyno.

    Worth every cent!
I have no experience with other dyno tuners around the country, but can totally recommend Gary Pendleton in Tauranga. He does a superb job.
The power commander alters the fuelling every 250rpm, with ten throttle positions for each of the 250rpm increments

    Power Commander. Cheers!

Cheers Guys for that. Have brought a power commander and fitted it to my SV650 tonight and will take it in to get a custom map done.

How much does it cost to get a custom map done? or is there no average/ normal cost?

    Takes about 3 hours.
We had a K5 SV650 custom mapped. The difference in throttle response was awesome.
Is your 650 an Aussie spec one? (check the VIN plate, if it's aluminium it more than likely is). If it is, I have still got a copy of the map we had done, but it is for K&N filter/full Yoshimura exhaust.... you're welcome to try it.
Alternatively, just run one of Dynojet's maps in it till you get a custom done
