Mate, that hill was the best spot for minties moment photos. I rode out to help SpikedPunch and it was amazing how many people botched it. Its not like they had never been down it before either. It was well into the race.

I'd guess that every 8th rider washed the front out or went over the bars. One guy went down then stopped moving. I was concerned enough to drop the bike and start running over to help but he must have been doing some sort of self diagnostics check and eventually started moving again.

My identity hasn't been revealed as my last name's been misspelt. Might go by 'Punchy McSpunchy' or something next time.

That was scary! He was laying in the middle of the hill not moving, and another guy had started to drop over the edge! I think us yelling got him going tho.
So, yeah, if you want a little nap after taking a spill, don't do it in the middle of the track

    What race report ?

Both being complete Noobs and never riden anything like this before,
The start was pretty scarey being on grid 19 completely surrounded by other riders

We were originally going to do the Father and son thing, but there was a bit of confusion over a team mate for the other rider with us,so we desided to do the 2 man with an additional chap to team up with Noobie.
When we got there we couldnt find him so the three of us thought "how hard could it be" lets do the ironman thing and ride together.
Thats plan failed at the first corner when Noobie and Phil dissappeared into the distance .....
Anyway, I was reluctant to put too much pressure on Chris Birch and desided to do the race at my own pace and ended up doing 3 laps , noobie and Phil did 4.
TBH I spent too much time rescuing people before it dawned on me that it was a race and there are dedicated sweepers for this job.

I could have done 4 laps if I wasnt helping people.
Young guy spat the chain off his bike at the top of horrible sandy hillclimb
Older chap splatted himself on the slippery uphill (bolders bit)
    Spiked punch (twice)
    Various others.

The main learning was, dont be a muppett , we cant ride at race pace for 2 1/2 hours ....
So we have agreed we will enter Father and Son for the next rounds.
Apart from being totally shagged , it was really good fun and we all enjoyed it.
I thought it was very well run and no real issues with any of the organisation etc:
I didnt realise it was KTM Boy giving me the "Idiots guide to how it works" prior to us entering (or I would have said hi)
Dumbest moment for me, doing the land speed record towards the timing checkin and braking at the 1 meter mark and dropping the bike right at the chichane .....Luckily no one saw (lol not)

That's cause you took all the short cuts like me!!!

Well had a tally up! 20 KB teams or individuals all together by my reckoning!!
That's about 31 or so of us incl friends and riding buddies!
What would Ktm Boy do without us eh!! LOL!!!

Good on you IIIRII & Noobi. It's a bit stronger flavoured than trail riding for sure but great to do it. Sounds like KB'ers got home without too much damage. Mate's girl friend had a look in ambo now and then, apparently one or two pretty bad scrapes and dings for some.
Yeah Noobi, gotta drink a lot beforehand. I try and drink more than 3 litres before, but then I don't carry any water with me.

I counted up 275 riders in total, pretty good turnout I'd say.

I start hydrating myself a week before the race. Will take on at least 2L a day. I found on that last race I was really hydrated, didnt get to tired. Only thing that let me down was my bike fitness. Body got pretty sore eh..

yea me too, my bike fitness is usually pretty good, but after being off the bike for 4 or so months my fore arms got quite sore, rest of my body held up suprisingly well i thought.
