Shit bike = poor income?

Do you think that the (perceived) quality of the bike you ride, assessed by how much others think it’s worth, reflect your income?

For some reason a couple of people on KB, who have taken exception at what I have posted lately, and decided to leave abuse on my profile or thru red rep – have both made comments on how much they earn compared to me?
And then insulted my piece of shit 1998 Bandit

As they have no idea how much I earn, I can only assume they relate the fact that I ride an older cheaper bike to a lack of funds?
Is this a common perception?
Does your bike reflect how much you earn?

I’ve never really looked at what some one rides and thought they must be wealthy, or they must be broke?

My bike is priceless to me

It is not a shit bike at all, the blue lovely is just that, blue and lovely.

I have no idea what it says about my income, and I dont care. You come across wankers all over the place mate, I tend to ignore them for the most part.

In my experience mate, flash bike probably means a big HP debt or a great lease deal, it has nothing to do with income at all.

Personally i find much fun in sticking with late model riding mates through the good bits on my old Dinosaur.I admire new bikes/old bikes,what the owner earns a year i couldnt give a shit about.As for the Interweb,would bet that theres a heap of "real fast cunts" on here are not to bad on a keyboard but pretty slow everywhere else,probably truth be known easy to spot in the real world ie walking on all four with baseball caps the wrong way round.Once again just a personal thing but as much as i would like a new Buell the fact is i would find the laughter from 600 gixxer owners on my tail through the good bits to much to bear so i wont bother.

I'm not stressing about it - Red rep and abuse doesn't worry me at all

I just found it interesting that they would have that impression? wondered if it was a common attitude?

Might be that kind of thinking that got us in that supposed credit crunch

same! and also sometimes it does reflect income, ive had 6 bikes while a student, none have been worth more than 3k because i dont have the money. Still enjoy riding as much as the next guy though, which is all that matters, also, i still own 3 of them

edit: I may not even count cos student have NO income instead of Poor income

probably true and not true. Some they don't want a expensive bike and some they don't have the money to buy a expensive bike.

But if you earn well there's no reason to buy a shit bike?!

I voted "No" purely on the basis that people have many priorities and putting money into an expensive bike may take something away from those other priorities. If I had a family to support or other hobbies, I would potentially have chosen a less expensive bike but I would still own a bike.

To an extent, yes; however, you still have to be able to service that HP, which could require a higher income. Could someone on a student allowance get an RSV4 (about $44k) on HP and afford the repayments?
