    Are insurance premiums going up?

I'm going through the formalities of insuring both my kids bikes.

I currently insure my 125 with NAC for around $70...but have been told this will double when I renew.

    I just rang NAC for the RM80. = $122?
    I just rang Protecta for RM80 = $200!!! waaaaah

Anyone gone through this exercise very recently? Who did you recently go with?

Just got my bike covered with NAC. It's for $5000, same as the CRF250. They've charged me $98.10!

I just (last week) got insured with AMI. They classed it as a farm bike and insured it for market value at the time of claim.

They knew is was a race bike (that wasn't raced) and said that was fine. Covered during transport and for theft. $75 I think I paid.

First person at AMI I asked said they couldn't do it.

i would be real carefull doing this as it gives them an out being incorrectly insured. as its not on a farm.

You might find you have crossed a risk boundary. For example, you may have just moved into a higher risk age bracket. Have you perhaps shifted recently? Perhaps maybe people with that type of bike have had a higher claim rate in the last year.

Another possibility is the insurer is wanting to re-distribute their risk. So an easy way to shed risk in one category is to put the price up so people go elsewhere.

Yeah, that's what I thought so I asked. I said I ride on a farm and at a track sometimes and explained all that. They were still happy with it.

Yes, we have our personal bikes insured under the same AMI policy. I made sure that they were covered for all eventualities. Firstly the clerks behind the desk know jack shit and gave me the same story. Go to the bosses and they will cover you.

AMI do a Restricted Bike Policy which dirtbikes fall into this category. It covers a few scenario's as the roadbike will soon be going onto this policy to save same money as it won't be getting ridden for 6 months or so.
