Well after some considerate thought on the matter I have arrived at the following tenet:

Fuck them, fuck the double yellows, fuck the pissy car drivers, fuck the snakes I'm going to carry on as normal.

Remember that you can pass an un motorised vehicle over a yellow line if its safe.

Just tell the cop that the fucker was going so slow you thought it was horsedrawn.

Oh, and Jimbo, I'm with you. (Well a bit behind, but you know what I mean.)

    RIP the hill.
Could be but even thats getting harder to do with more areas being closed to bikes every year...... Auckland area is organised rides only pretty much.

One of my old road favorites(Riverhead Rd) up here was put to 80kph, makes doing 120 dodgey......

Passing between car and yellow lines, legal, but some cops may still try to have you on.
Yesterday I rode from Auckland to Tauranga and back (and charged the customer well over $100 travelling fee). I passed vehicles where there were double yellows 3 or 4 times - easily enough room to zip past safely even if I had to cross the double yellows to do so. There were plenty of places with just the normal dashed white centre line where I wouldn't dream of passing. Sometimes the placement of the double yellows is retarded, sometimes it makes sense for cars to not try passing there, but bikes can safely pass. Even my four hundy needs much less room to pass a slow car or truck than any car.

Of course I never actually crossed the double yellows, because that would be illegal

It would be nice for it to be legal to cross the double yellows on a bike as long as you can do it safely. Of course it would also be nice if more motorists were courteous and moved to the left enough to let bikes pass without crossing the centre line - to those that do that now I give a grateful wave. Courteous drivers, what a concept!

I recently rode from Rotorua to Wellington and back and twice found myself inadvertantly passing on double yellows, because I was so busy watching traffic, passing opportunities etc and the place that I did pass was such a safe and obvious place to pass. I was just amazed to find some twat had painted no passing lines there.

Seems the double passing lines everywhere is a relatively new policy that is being implemented country wide.

    Smokin Joe.
South Island passing lanes mean that the slow driver you have been waiting to pass, takes the outside lane, hugs the center line and speeds up to about 120kph minimum and does his damndest to hold that position until the end of the passing lane!

They then proceed at 70kph hugging the center line until the next passing lane and then it all starts all over again!

Do the revenue collectors target these drivers, "absolutely not"!

These drivers are the cause of all the of frustration, road rage and speeding in excess of big numbers to try and get around them.

I think the revenue collectors manage these bastard drivers on a catch and release program, much like trout fishers do!

Keeps the quotas up with out doing the hard hours!

Do rabbit boards ever eliminate rabbits? They are the basis of their rice bowl FFS!

That would be like expecting our politicions to get rid of their perks.

Ummmm, I went over the Rimutakas today (God what a perfect day for a ride!!) and didn't notice double yellow lines the entire way....mind you I ride like a nana anyway so it wouldn't bother me.

Been over today and they have painted the bottom half of the Feathers side..so far. The top half has had the white lines burnt off ready for painting.

As expected, the slowest vehicle set the pace for the rest of us, bumper to bumber behind. I guess we now have more time to look at the scenery.

Time to get some hi-riser bars on the 675 MD so it will be nice and comfy at "pace car" speed.

p.s. out today gassing up some of our bikes and on one of the trips around SH58 by the bay some dude on an orange wheeled Buell ahead of me said fuck the double yellows and just passed the cars anyway - not that he really made great headway but he passed a few of the "pace cars".

They need to post huge "KEEP LEFT, ALLOW MOTORCYCLES TO PASS" notices at the bottom of both sides of the hill! That should help!

Edit: On second thoughts, post these notices everywhere, from North Cape to the Bluff!
