    Tyre choice for Motocross

Hi Guys, this will be my first replacement tyre on my 03 YZF450. I mainly ride Karapodi\Mungatuks so interested to know what brands\models are good for my type of riding.

Im running a 130-70-19 Michelin and it has done well.

Also should i being going for soft or hard compound ? Is there a medium compound ?

I have been told by a shop 'sigh' that i am limited for choice because of it being a un-common wide 130.

I know if i went down to 110 it opens it up to a few other brands.

Keep in mind that the Michelins use different sizings.
So their 130 is the equivilent of a 110 in other brands.

It really depends how much your wanting to spend.
New Michelins these days can be up to $190 each! There are plenty of other brands out there that work and cost nearly half that price. Saying that the Michelins are bloody good tyres without a doubt.

You could look at Vee Rubber. The do a Med Soft to Med Hard compound, so are right in the middle. Its called the VRM140. They are pretty good.
Motorcycing is not a hobby, It is a way of life!

Thanks man ill do a search on Vee Rubber VRM140, yea i know the shop priced $145 for Michelin 110 wide so can only imagine how much 130 will be. I guess you put a lot of trust in your tyres lol hanging it out there so i im not going to go for any cheapo $80 tyres that flick the knobs off like they were glued on lol.

Its other way round, Michelin 110 is equal to others 130.

I've found the S12 to be great, doesn't get killed on rocks too quickly either

michelin use different sizing on there S12 and M12 series, a 130/70-19 is a normal 110/90-19 (they even put a sticker on the tyre sometimes)

Not sure if there is a H12 but my guess it is (Hard Compound) ... Does anyone know what the 12 stands for lol. 12th edition maybe ?

I'm having a good run using 120 Pirelli Scorpion's up there, grips bloody well even with lots of pressure in it and seems to be wearing bloody well. The boys seem to be quite fond of the MC5's and MC6's (think the 6 may be the slightly hader one?) on their 450's and appear to get reasonable life and grip out of them
