    Colin Dale Park

Check this out. There could be a MX track in Manukau. Developers have
opened it up for "expressions of interest from developers". Has anyone/club got their finger in the pie? If not, then should there be?

Anyone know where this park is exactly? No address details on the Manukau City Council website, just a vague statement about it being "near the airport". nothing on Wises or GoogleMaps either.

Lots of shared use with other motorsports, but that's not necessarily a bad thing, there's a gas station handy... might get a covered pits area?

57ha not huge (~750m square, are my sums right?) but better than a poke in the eye.

Not sure that a recession is the best time to build it, but it would be so handy that it would get a lot of people wanting to use it - which may be the only problem, and the council is looking to pass that headache on to someone else.

    1 hectare = 10000 square mtrs
    57hectare = 570000 sq mtrs or 140.85 acres or 570000000000sq mm

I could be wrong, but I think this might just rule out MX

A max of 80dbA is pretty damn low, so you'd need some serious sound proofing in place to try & minimise it & I suspect that rules dirt bikes out.

    (2) The noise generated by motor racing shall at all times comply with the following noise limits:
    Leq 65dBA Lmax 80dBA

( The noise is measured on the boundary ).

That was my thought too, but I figured they are talking about all sorts of activities, including blo-karts and rc cars. Put those around the edges, and put mx/speedway/etc in the middle. 57ha is a reasonable amount of land to hide noise on, and it looks like it runs along the cliff top so put the noisey stuff at that side, rather than the side that'll border other properties.

Dang Auckland region is getting it's act together ( just got the Rally of NZ back ), I just hope that the SuperCity proposal does not put a spanner in the works.

I'm going back in my memory banks a bit now and wasn't directly involved in the application but Mt Welly Kart club applied for resource consent to move their track out very near the airport as they are on a year by year lease. The land they are on at Mt Welly is zoned for a motorway bypass (I think)? Thats why there is no major improvements of that track.
Anyway to the point they where turned down for NOISE?? Next to the airport?? Tui!
    Secondly
Motorsport for the fans is about hearing the roar of the engine (and the prangs). I reckon if you make it too quiet the punters won't turn up. Imagine V8 Supercars or F1 where you can't hear the engines. That would suck! I reckon 90-100db is about a good happy medium, 80db is to quiet to promote the park, no atmosphere! What they've got to do is strickly enforce the 100db!!! Its the odd wally that stuffs it for all of us send him home!
On a Motorcycle you're penetrating distance, right along with the machine!! In a car you're just a spectator, the windshields like a TV!!

'Life's Journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out! Shouting, ' Holy sh!t... What a Ride!! '

I never took you as being such a trusting soul.

I hope you are right, guess the signs are good with City Scramble / Rally of NZ / Colin Dale park, maybe we just need to be as good at publicity as the knockers, which makes me think, a certain CEO of a major Yachting NZ team is a recent dirt bike convert, be tough to find someone as good at navigating Govt organisations from National to Local as him & he's making noises of moving out of his current role.
