I took a look, and you're most welcome. Sorry I can't help though.

turns out the love for 2 wheels has been in the family for quite some time.

This is my great grandad and his mother in law i have no idea what year this was, im guessing some time around the 30's

This one is my great grandad again but the other guy is unknown.
im guessing this is from around the same time, he appears to be on the same bike as the first pic but there are a few minor changes.. no "clutch" leaver on the left side of the bars and the number plate is different on the front.

He lived in Napier for most of his life so its likely these images are from the bay somewhere.

if anyone can help itentify the make/model of the bikes that would be cool
otherwise thanks for taking a look anyways.
the first piccie is an early 20's harley single the second it could be the same bike but looking at the engine area could be a harley twin.
dont get cofused over the different number plates, they used to issue new ones each year much like our rego cards these days.
not sure what the otehr bike is though, looks very british

Granddad is, as far as I can tell, on a 1929 or 1930 Harley-Davidson Model B, a 350cc sidevalve single. His friend might be on a 1926 Norton 490cc sidevalve Model 16. I love the twin bicycle headlamps, powered by friction generators on the front tyre, just like my old Raleigh Sports bicycle all those years ago!

Any other pics to help narrow this down?

What great pics. It gives you a sense of the road conditions back then. The riding would be more akin to adventure riding.

The "Vacuum Oil Company" sign in the background is interesting. I'm guessing fuel was shipped in drums around the world? We really take a lot for granted now.

Bumblebeeman1150 thanks for that, after having a look around google at 1930 Harley-Davidson Model B it looks like the exact same bike
