    Cheap bike

I'm looking to buy a dirt bike for around $500, the only catch is it has to have lights and indicators, then I can bolt a licence plate to it so it can at least 'look' legal. I was thinking about an old Honda XL or TS125 or TS185. Any other ideas?

For that sort of money you'd be getting one with peddles!

I live quite close to some off road trails, I don't have a towbar on my car, I don't have a trailer and I don't have any room on my property to fit a trailer and I can't afford a to buy another road legal bike and then pay WOF and rego on 4 vehicles, so what else am I meant to do? And the plate I intend to bolt on is not stolen.

for $500 you are going to get a collection of parts that is a maintenance nightmare. Dirt bikes don't last as long as road bikes and tend to get a much harder life. If you find something at that price you are going to be spending more time in the garage than standing on the pegs. Been there done that not going back. To get something vaguely reliable budget about $2,500 and thats not going to be flash. I'd be looking at a cheap '96 or newer KDX.

4 vehicles and you ask 'what else am I meant to do?'

None of those 4 have a towbar?

FFS,sell one of your 4,bung a towbar one one of the 3 left then with the space of your sold vehicle you can put your trailer!

    Cheers and thank me later.

won't go fast ar do big jumps but easy to work on cheap and potential for loads of fun in the mud
you don't need a modern bike to have fun me and my mates spent most of our spare time dureing highschool thrashing old drum braked dual shock bikes cz175,ts185,kt250,xl/xr250s etc a guy up road had a pe175 and he was fkn loon used to use the ditch to jump it over the fence into paddocks. The

scaryest/funnest thing I ever rode then was a eary 80s ktm250 enduro bike skinny long long travel forks drum brakes and no powervalve vibrated like a bastard didn't stop, kicked like a bitch when it came on pipe did the most amazing wheel stands

a little more expensive but big improvement

Cull the vehicles and get a proper bike - it definitely works out way better, I know because I have done it before.

Used to have a '93 CRM250 and was adverse to spending $ on something I wouldn't get to use much, got railroaded into burning some savings and buying a 2006 RMZ450 (about 4x the price of the CRM) and haven't had any regrets at all. Sold the car and bought a ute. All totally worthwhile.
