    4 KTMs and a BMW do Whanga for lunch

    Today was almost a summers day here in the Naki so what better thing to do than head to Whangamomona for lunch via Urenui, Uruti Valley, Kiwi Rd, Mt Dampner and the Forgotten World Highway.

    First the characters;
    Me of course(!) on my 990 with Leanne - a virgin to gravel riding and someone who had never been to Whangamomona!
    Brian and Linda on orange KTM #2, his is the bike with the decals on it from his trip at the beginning of the year to South America (lucky buggar!)
    Dave and Kaz on orange KTM #3, recently off a KTM 640 (yes that is a big screen)
    Greg and Fiona on the 990S, they are smart looking machines
    And finally
    Phil (Phreaky Phil) on the mighty BMW that always seems to go so well (although he did end up in a ditch at one stage...)

    Now there is no truth in the rumour that us Naki "men" wanted to head out into the back blocks on fathers day to visit any of the spring lambs.... (although I am sure I heard one blond lambie calling out Daaaaadie when Phil went past).

    Enough of the bull sh!t, here are some pictures (most places the MAPMEA ride will be visiting);

    1) Meeting up at the start
    Uruti tunnel;
    2) Brian and Linda (showing off his decals the basssstard!)
    3) Dave and Kaz, camera almost too slow to catch them
    4) Greg and Fiona on the mighty S

    1. Phreaky Phil on the BMW
    2. The group after the Uruti tunnel
    3. Kiwi Road intersection, that is such a cool road to ride
    4. The line up at Whanga pub, some of the riders that had stopped here may have been on their way back from the Cold Kiwi?

    1. The world famous (in the Naki) Whanga Burger
    2. You ex Punk Rockers might remember one of Ian Dury and the Blockheads songs - New Boots and Panties. Well this is nearly but not quite (or not that I am going to tell you lot!) as Leanne models her new boots, helmet and jacket (she is going to kill me!) And how is that for a view of Mt Taranaki?
    3. Here is the picture taken from the same spot as number 2 but looking the other way towards Ruapehu etc

    And the last picture

    I took this picture especially for a good mate of mine, another Kiwi Biker, a BMW rider and (even with that) an all round good bloke.

    This picture will hold fond memories for him from the TTTTT ride last year. Maybe he will want to come on line and explain the significance of it (clue why is the school bus shelter missing a bit from the bottom left....)

    Steve your time starts now.......!!!!!!

    He's up in Ohakune, skiing with his son. Saw him at the Kiwi. Yes, I believe he will see the funny side. I've heard his story.

    About the lambs, it was almost slaughter of the lambs. Two reasonable sized ones leapt off the side of the road in front of me. I got hard on the brakes, veered over to the right side of the road hoping they would turn back. They didnt !!! I thought I was guna hit them, but one went past my front wheel and the other down the side of the bike but by that time I was heading for the drain. I couldnt steer it away so i aimed into the drain, sliding into it, still doing a fair clip. Luck was on my side and there wasnt anything solid in the drain and I scrubbed off speed until i was slow enough to climb back out. F##k.That was close. Closest ive come to a major getoff on Bumble. We live to ride another day !!
