Hyosung cam tensioner

Hyosung riders on the 2008 gt 250R should have recieved a letter advising them of the cam belt tensioner that needed to be repaired.
There are a couple of other posts that explain this as well.
We i had the misfortune of not getting a letter and was riding to upper hutt last week and had some horrible sounds happening betweem my legs.
Got a mate to pick the bike up and took it to TSS
They knew straight away what it was and asked if i had received a letter.
cut a long story short.
TSS contacted Hyosung who said they would pay for the parts but not the labour.
TSS informed me the labour was $500
I rung Hyosung and asked why they wouldnt pay for the labour when it was a known manufacturing fault.
the guy from hyosung Ken was really cooperative and said they would be willing to pay for half the labour.
I was willing to accept this.
i suppose i could have got nasty and mentioned the consumer gurantte act or MVDT.
bike has only done 11000K and just out of the 1 year warranty

just thanks to Hyosung to coming to the party.
Bit disappointed with TSS for not contacting me directly since i brought the bike from them brand new and had the 4k and 8k service done there and hadnt broughgt it in to fix the tensioner.
Maybe i'll ask them for a discount or maybe ill buy my next bike from somewhere else.

Be nice and ask - else you wont get anything.

Shit yeah, ask TSS to give you 250 off labour. Sounds like its their fuckup too. As you said you dont know until you ask

Since you bought the bike new from TSS they would have got the letter from Hyosung about the tensioners and a list of the affected serial numbers of the bikes. If yours was on the list, you should have got the letter (unless you've changed addresses) and TSS should have told you when you took your bike in for a service.

I'd be hitting them up for a 'discount'...

Ken and Scotty have been very understanding to a tee, with regards to the Hyosungs tensioner issues.
Free parts and 50% off labour is unheard of from the big dealers on a bike outside of warranty. Thank your stars that Hyo NZ is owned by good buggars.

Yes, we know... We've had one out of warranty claim accepted from them. They have been very good about our Hyosung bikes.

We received the letter for my bike, which I bought new from our local dealer. When I took the letter in there, they said that they had received notification from Hyosung and that our Sons bike was also on the list of tensioners to be replaced. We bought his bike 2nd hand and never received a letter about his bike.

What I was referring to in my previous post, was the fact that the dealer where Neil bought his bike new from, would have received notification that the tensioners needed replacing, along with a list of the affected bikes. They should be matching all the bikes they service, with the bikes on the list, imo, and informing the owners promptly. It seems in this case, that didn't happen, hence, I'd try hitting the dealer up for a 'discount on labour'...

A little hard to send letters if the address changes and no notification is sent plus the bike is 8 months out of warranty so I think TSS and Hyosung have been resonable but if thats not the case go and talk to the owner.
