    Was thinking I would make it this year, but it looks like my south island tour will be a couple of months after.

    It is a shame I would love to get down for this, maybe next year.

    Mate of mine was going to take his CR500 and race this year. I was going to tag along and look after the beer. Bike is still in a hundred bits on his lounge floor, so maybe next year.

    Have to skip the PP rally and I'm keen to get down that way but will have to see what happens closer to the time.

    What are the riding times (on the State Highway);
    Picton to Christchurch and
    Christchurch to Invercargill?

    Wises says 3 hr 37 min.

    I'd say more like 3 hours

    And wises say 6 hours

    I'd say about 5 1/2 including breaks.

    Picton to Chch via SH1 I'd allow 3.5-4 hours, Kaikoura is about 1/2 way. All those "damn" corners

    Chch to Dunners via SH1 is about 3.5-4hrs and I'm guessing at about another 2.5-3hrs from there south. By car we use to allow 4 Chch to Dunners, +1.5 to Clinton (who the hell would live there!) and about +1.5 to Giggle (this is the bit I'm least confident about).

    Anything greater than a fuel stop is additional.

    Gravel is a whole other story.

    Cheers R

    But why would you want to go via seal when there's plenty of gravel options?
