Only 14 sold new in NZ & this one looks like a fine example.
They are light, comfortable & fast, with long life motor.
No regrets since buying mine.

I'm with ya on that
My first bike was the awesome DT175 & have always had a soft spot for them. I've never been pulled up by the cops so many times as when I had that bike. I'd like a small playbike like this.
I mentioned vegetables once, but I think I got away with it...........
Just in case anyone here is making a comparison, the DT230 is way more advanced than the DT175.
I don't think its fair to call it a real trail bike. I've been using mine as a trail bike while I do some major maintenance on my trail bike (which is where I should be right now) and the DT is looking much more beat up even after just a couple of rides. For Odlins Rd and Perhams Rd its perfect. On any gnarly adv ride its great but as a proper single track trail bike I don't think its durable enough.
now that magic little 230 motor in a yz125 frame would be simply awesome
BTW the guy wanting $6k on tardme for one is playing with himself.
I agree Mark - the DT230 is not a dedicated trail bike. It's a "dual purpose" bike that can ride tight trails quite well yet still do 150 km/hr on the road.
I know what you mean mate; crossed wires here: I wasn't trying to say it was just a trail bike as i know better than that have seen you, Struan & Bruce do long days on one and i DO know its not an out and out trail bike! What i meant was it would suit Benjah for what he is looking for in his second bike now he has the Wee Strom for longer adv touring rides/trips, ie the DT would suit him as a bike to do the adv rides that encompass more serious tracks/trails that he wouldn't want to tackle on the Wee.![]()
Cheers, Dave
Mine was a 1979 DT175E - blackish dark blue. Rebuilt the engine on it then started it with the carb slide stuck so ran it in for a few secs at 10 0000RPM.
I can't believe how many parts I broke on that bike trying to go where the KDX & XR boys were going. Not a lot of grunt there.
Apparently when they came out in 79 they cost $1500 brand spanking. I believe they rereleased them 10yrs later & they still cost the same price brand new.
