I just think the game is more enjoyable/interesting if you're learning about what you're tagging, especially if it is a Church, Historic monument etcOriginally Posted by dangerous;1129466505O

Hmmm... well my last attempt to get the cheating goggleites thrown off the scent didnt work, so I'll try from another angle, no pic but the tags been delivered.
What I will give you is the info on the tag 1st rather than once its found, google ya hearts out riders, then take a spin and see how ya lucks running.
The hotel was built in the late 1800's and carried on by Mr White, the post office was also built into the building and a store was opened at the township in the days when Cobb and Co.'s coaches ran through it. They often uesd the stables for horse changes. A well known man by the name of Arthur Dobson stayed at the hotel for a long time while he built a very hard and treacherous road inland. However, the formation of the railway, and the consequent loss of the coach traffic, spoiled the business prospects of the township, and both the hotel and store were subsequently closed.
cheers DD

Maybe this is a starting point... http://books.google.com/books?q=Arth...rch+Books&um=1
NB: Arthur Dudley Dobson is the Arthur in Arthur's Pass.
Why not just play the game properly or not at all
As it states in the rules on page 1, the tag is a picture with the bike in it and has to be posted within 24 hrs of picking it up so this one should revert back to Transalper
The only place I can think of would be the Bealey Hotel, which is probably right on the 100km radius marker as the crow flys, but I don't know the history.
If it existed back then it would be a good place for the Dobson's to have stayed while making the road to Otira and would have fallen out of use once the railway was operating because it's the wrong side of the river.
Unless there's maybe somewhere around Lake Lyndon/Pearson/Grasmere. Although come to think of it I think the road has been moved in the last century (aside from Old West Coast road of course). Old maps anybody?

If I can take the trouble to come up to the city, and get a few tags... as per the rules...
How the tag is "found" should not be the issue, getting a (your) bike to the tag and a photo for proof you've been there is.
Isn't it ???
The amount of stuff you find whilst trolling for tags on google, it can be an education in itself. Can get sidetracked too ...
When life throws you a curve ... Lean into it ...
A few more minutes and I've found an exact quote.... "and the consequent loss of the coach traffic, spoiled the business prospects of the township, and both the hotel and store were subsequently closed." so I believe I know the town on the old west coast rd but it's pissing down outside and what the heck am I supposed to tag if I went there??? The old school? the paddock full of cars? the domain? The hall?
