Scooter Rage!

This morning on my commute into work I noticed a scooter ahead of me weaving it's way through the traffic along the Petone Esplanade. The scooter rider had a distinctively coloured helmet.

I was a little bit behind the scooter rider and where the lane merges into 1 I noticed him/her weave to the left, then back to the right and then begin gesticulating vigorously with his/her left arm to a cage in front of them. It appeared that the cage wasn't moving over to the left but was still positioned in the right of the lane. The scooter rider then squeezed down the side of the car and his/her right foot was on the kerb of the traffic island to steady the scooter because there wasn't enough room for the rider to ride past the car their legs in the 'normal' position. From there a heated argument (which I couldn't hear) ensued which included lots of expletives being exchanged and eventually the scooter rider zoomed off.

I didn't see him/her again until he/she exited onto the Old Hutt Road at the Ngauranga Flyover.

I felt so embarrassed that someone on 2 wheels who was cheekily weaving through the traffic then gets all pissy with a cager when they had to wait a few extra seconds for the cager to move over. All I could think was - "Oh great now that cager will probably be lumping me in with that crazy angry scooter rider." Shame on you!!!

this is an old argument. These sort of antics by riders and drivers have been happening for eons. Just because you witnessed one doesn't mean the "problem" is any greater today than it was yesterday.

So think about it - have you EVER had someone TELL you "you are just like the rest of the asshole bikers and drivers" ?

Pisses you off when people do that sort of thing eh? I have been talking ( not like me I know) to folk since this proposed ACC levy thing raised its ugly head, and I have heard about the dick heads amongst us that behave badly. I was actually surprised to hear from all sorts of folk about their experience of "some" motorcyclists.

There is without a doubt an element that serves the 2 wheeled community badly, luckily they are in the minority.

Regardless of it being "an old argument" it doesn't make it okay and I wasn't in anyway inferring that the problem is greater now.

No I haven't had people remark on my riding in particular (possibly cos I ride like a bit of a nana mostly) but I have definitely had non-riding friends and family remark on what they consider as dangerous and/or inconsiderate manoeuvres they have witnessed riders perform.

unFUCKINGbelievable - but I think I saw the same person this person on a scooter weaving erratically down Murphy Street when he was stopped by full lanes and red lights at Pipitea Street. The rider started to try to ride down the right side of the car in the left lane but the scooter was too wide, and while I watched - they paddled back, wound on the throttle and revved the arse out of the scooter!!

All the time they were laying on the horn and waving their hand for the car to move to the right of the lane (it couldn't the lights were red). The rider then swerved to the left side of the car and with his foot up on the footpath tore off down the left side of the traffic across the lights before dashing back into the right lane again!

LOL - What a sight Kept me amused all morning. I am damned if I know how he/she stayed on the bike to be honest

Dont sweat it miss p,38 odd years on two wheels later i look back on all the crazy car drivers ive had try and kill me and still dont lump all car drivers in the same boat.

And it's not a scooter - it's a scroter. It also has the ability to translate itself all over the place in less than no time, but it's more fun to not use that function (apart from getting from here to there in no time to have some scrotering fun in a different locale...)

Flying over the overpass onto the Hutt RD heading north toward the Kaiwharawhara lights at about 1500. A very slow going moped, lucky to be doing 45 in a 60km/h road. Nothing odd about that, until at the lights he filtered between the two lanes re-passing all the cars that had to change lanes to pass him or her moments before.
(I ride a gutless 125 so I usually don't filter unless there's really bad hold ups, so I was tucked behind a car on the left lane)
Then as the lights went green he or she gave it full stick, but soon had to pull back into the left lane and let all the cars re-pass him or her for a second time, it got very close with a couple of cars.

Average car drivers don't distinguish the difference between mopeds and motorcycles, so I felt very embarrassed and didn't know what body language to display overtaking him or her. It's not as bad as the earlier story on this tread, but I couldn't help thinking this was the same person. And I believe moped riders need better training, for there own safety.

I doubt they are remotely in a position to judge that accurately. As you say, "non-riders."

Bikers are always going to piss off cagers, and cagers are always going to irritate bikers, and then each is going to have their little whinge - thats just the nature of it. Sure, some bikers act out their feelings in ways they shouldn't, but so do some cagers - which is the more dangerous? Which way would you prefer the power balance?

So its just more of the same old, same old, so just go do as you choose.

I go through that very spot every morning

I wait quietly on the cars right hand rear corner, almost universally once I am noticed they make enough room to squeeze through on the right, use the 'turn' lane to get to the bridges 'breakdown' zone which takes ya straight to the centre lane to initiate ya filter into the city....

Regulars all know the procedure, and this scooter riders a moron

with you, me and 50 other 'regulars' all syncronizing with the truckies, vans, taxis and cages Miss Piggy I thiink our reputation will survive

I get a LOT of goodwill from Cagers around that area, by quietly waiting for them to cooperate



PS:
Its also perfectly legal for bikes to use the TAXI lane so I hope Miss Piggy aint that bike I see sitting in the Q unneccesarilly, we are ALLOWED to use it under LTSA legislation.
Last cager who moved right and yelled at me, I quietly told him we are allowed to use that lane, still got abused, lol
Cant make em all happy, some just hate us for being free!
