I'm not gona make it tonight. I no, I no, you will miss my wonderful presence he he. Have a safe trip folks.
An experience cannot be proven, intellect and reason cannot prove the beauty of an awesome relationship with a motorbike.
As a matter of interest...Having never ridden over the hilltop and from a noob perspective, what are the challenges of going all the way over to Dev. that will lead to some turning back at Little River.
If you can get to the Wheatsheaf Pub then you can get all the way to Akaroa as far as the roads are concerned.
Duvauchelle is a lot closer than Akaroa.
The only difference is the distance, which could be considered a bit of a challenge to new riders who are still finding their legs as they may fatigue quicker than those used to going the distance.

Some find the hill daunting. It's just got lots of fantastic corners. Nothing to worry about. However I think a few people aren't confident with riding back over the hill in the dark so they stop at Little River. For me thats like dangling a piece of chocolate in front of my nose and then walking away with it...I was so close to that chocolaty goodness. Damn it! Now I'm going to have to get some chocolate at lunch
like transalper said
the fatigue.
the hill top is much the same sort of roads (if not in better nick) than what we've been riding recently.
the difference is there's a ride out along the flats, which for newer rider will seem to go on for ages, if it's windy (which it almost always is on a bike) then it can create discomfort and uneasyness.
to be honest turning around at little river is detrimental to your motorcycling because you've ridden all that way along straight boring bits, all uncomfortable and stuff, turn around and do it all again, get home and go "well shit, that wasn't worth half a tank"
you're much better to press on to duvauchelle, enjoy the hill and the sense of accomplishment, get home with a 3/4 empty tank and feel as though you've achieved something and had a great time doing it. oh but you'll be exhausted. sleep well though...
Hey lay off the straight roads, I happen to like the roads being straight!![]()
For me it isn't about not having the confidence to do the road I do, having done a few scary things, like Dyers Pass, it's more to do with pacing myself and taking small steps. It's scary enough doing a group ride with you lot! Also I'm not going to force myself to do anything I don't want or not feel comfortable doing just so I can say that I have done a bit of road! Ok, as you were!![]()

Jesus was nailed up to some wood, two thousand years later and book sales are still good
Try not to be too sad, but I don't think I will be along tonight. Need to study for exams. And I went for a ride today over gebbies and dyers...oops I was only supposed to go to the post office! Hate it when that happens :P
