Radio Hauraki and The Rock FM are both notorious for having a big following amongst a certain biker demographic!
If we are clever we can tailor our radio ads to suit the demographic profiles of the different stations. Big Dave is managing this process. If you can offer him any professional advice or assistance (anyone with radio production experience? Anyone with access to an audio suite? Anyone with media buying power?) please give him a yell.
Perhaps this should be started as a new thread.If we had $10 for every new thread in this section we could buy ACC and run it the way we want.

As you may be aware ACC has proposed an increase to the levy motorcycle riders will be required to pay.
The proposed fee changes translates to substantial increases for motorcycle owners:
* Motorcycle, up to 125cc (including mopeds). ACC Levy $292.93.
* Motorcycle, 126-600cc. ACC Levy $546.78.
* Motorcycle, 601cc and over. ACC Levy $781.12.
The current ACC Levy is:
* Motorcycle, less than 60cc. ACC Levy $252.69.
* Motorcycle, 61cc and over. ACC Levy $252.69.

SOME OF THE FACTS:
ACC would have you believe motorcyclists are being subsidised by car drivers
"ACC said that in 2008/09 it paid more than $62 million for accidents involving motorcycles. It collected $12.3m in levies from motorcyclists in the same period." (NZPA 16th Oct) This has also been quoted by both Nick Smith and John Judge, and means there is a $50m shortfall which must be funded from other means.
"Dr Smith said motorcyclists were 16 times more likely than car drivers to be involved in accidents, yet car owners were currently subsidising their ACC bills by $77 each."
The Ministry of Transport (MOT) Annual Vehicle Fleet Statistics for 2008 states there are 2,584,509 light passenger vehicles in New Zealand (light passenger vehicles are defined as cars and vans).
According to Dr Smith each light passenger vehicle subsidises motorcyclists by $77. This comes to a grand total of $199,007,193.
The ACC paid more than $62 million for motorcycle accidents in 2008/9
This means car drivers are paying $137million more than the total ACC cost supposedly incurred by the motorcyclist.
This amount FAR EXCEEDS the $50m SHORTFALL claimed by ACC for 2008/09.
Ministry Of Transport data is being misreported. Motorcycle accident and death rates are actually very low
This is where the data from the MOT is being misreported:
In the annual Vehicle Fleet Statistics for 2008, compiled by the MOT, they state there are 111,000 motorcycles (including mopeds). BUT when the MOT compile the accident statistics (expressed per 10,000 motorcycles on the road) they publish a figure of 95,000 motorcycles. MOT vary the number of motorcycles by a staggering 16,000.
The Vehicle Fleet Statistics are calculated for CO2 emission and fuel use purposes. By showing larger numbers of smaller capacity engines it is a positive. However, when wanting to show the number of motorcycle accidents it is beneficial to policy makers to use a lower number of total bikes.
The table below shows that older riders may in fact be reducing accident and fatality statistics:

ACC has no evidence that large motorcycles mean more accidents
The Crash Analysis System (CAS) database is woefully deficient in recording accurate data.
Of a total of 423 accidents (i.e. all motorcycle and other vehicle accidents in Auckland and Canterbury in 2008), 181 (43%) failed to record the CC rating of the motorcycles involved. There is no reason to assume the remainder of the 2008 database is any more accurate.
Interestingly the mode of the Auckland/Canterbury sample was 250cc (250cc was reported the most).
In addition, ACC forms do not record CC ratings of motorcycle accidents. So how can this claim be factually supported?
So this does not lend weight to charging a higher levy on bigger capacity motorcycles.

No follow up from the Radio Network.
They responded to the advertising request form on their web site - asking where I was located - within 15 minutes.
I responded with a brief - asked for some rate info and haven't heard back.
I have been out of the office a lot though. I'll mail them again now.
