Not quite following this to be honest, as I'm a local.

The Pakuranga Highway is usually referring to Pakuranga Rd, which, from my understanding of your route, is not being used. The Pakuranga Motorway, while strictly not always used, is the bigger of the two bridges, and part of the South Eastern Highway.

Turning left from Te Irirangi Drive into Ti Rakau Drive, you would continue straight (through a fair few lights) and turn left onto the South Eastern Highway (not using a right hand lane, the left lane feeds onto the SE highway). Then, you use the right hand lane to feed onto the motorway past Carbine Rd. Wouldn't want people turning right just after the bridge either (ie, before Carbine Rd), as that would take you into Mt Wellington.

Also check with the cops, they generally prefer in these situations to use the fast lane only (when I led the cheesecutter ride, the Sargeant went first, at 80kph ish, and the whole formation stayed in the right hand lane as much as poss - except for the damn nose to tail just before Ellerslie). The reason for this is there is less danger, with general traffic trying to use the on and off ramps.

Don't know your current dialogue with the cops, but initially, they wouldn't have any dealings around the original cheesecutter ride, as they didn't want to appear to support the event. In the end, with the large numbers as we approached the event, I was contacted a couple of days out, as they had to attend on safety grounds (which was much appreciated).

Yes Gremlin, we intend to be using the (fast lane) because of the reason you mentioned. Through the Te Rakau area, you can have control. I was trying to get back onto the Southern (heading north) via the Mt Wellington on ramp?
But since you know the area you can get us through there. I have added you to the front four.
And thank you for your support and help.

The Motorway Police have been made aware of this event and are happy for us to do what we are planning. They will heads up Highway Patrol too so all our bases are covered. There is no intention to deliberately set out to slow traffic or cause mayhem on this ride, with the lead riders setting the pace we really should not get in anyones way. I will be keeping in contact with the Police as the ride day draws closer and keep them appraised of how big we are looking at getting.

Now, lets just hope for a lovely day!

Hmmm... best I talk to my favourite asian rider, and see about stretching the legs of one of his gaggle of bikes...

Hell, I'll cage it as a support/logistics vehicle if I have to!

    Hi All,

Heart Children have decided that they do not want to have pillions aboard bikes for the ride. So it looks like we may have a couple of pillion seats available for people who want to come along but don't want to/can't ride their own bikes.

    Cheers,
    Mully

Ok, if you want to get onto the Motorway at Mt Wellington, you have a couple of options. Using the South Eastern Highway, you can't turn onto Mt Wellington Highway (SE Hwy is elevated). You can go down SE Hwy and turn left onto Carbine Rd, right onto Clemow Dr, right at the roundabout and then left onto motorway onramps. Not ideal, bit of a rat run, but could be done. Right turns and roundabouts will naturally split the group a bit.

Otherwise, also using the SE Hwy, you can turn right just after the bridge onto Waipuna Rd, left onto Mt Wellington Hwy and then right onto the motorway onramps. This is a more main route, you would have the traffic of Sylvia Park tho (not more so than Botany Town Centre I guess), and you'd be split turning right at onto the onramp (and onto Waipuna) because of the traffic lights.

Would probably suggest riding it next weekend to be sure of the route, so the police know exactly as well?

This seems the easier option and was what I had in mind from the start (may have got a road or two wrong but hey, im known for that)

So Waipuna is basically the onramp yes? we could slow it down at this point until we are all back as a group. You/Me/Graham and Lisa will talk it over on the morning so that we are all on the same track. Im off to Wellington this weekend so cant do a rekky.

Hahaaaaaaa how little you know me.....
Refer to post one and you will see the registration link.....

But that just gives us an idea of who is coming, off here.
Not everyone will register and then there are those that say and do nothing, they just turn up anyway.

Tiny bit of confusion here. This is what was planned. From Ti Rakau Drive turn left onto the Pakuranga Highway. Go over the bridge and veer left onto the South Eastern Highway. Go under the motorway and turn right at the Mt Wellington On ramp back onto the Motorway heading North to the city.
