    Insurance and tracks?

Going to a rider training day at Hampton Downs on Saturday.
I have two bikes, one is 30 years old on classic insurance and the other is 10 years old.
Classic Insurance said " $3000.00 excess if used on a track"

Ducati Insurance said " no...as not recognised trainers like Honda School and another that sounded like Mainland Training"

My Friend has another 30 year old bike and his insurance said " no worries as long as no timing is taking place"

    Another with Swan said similar.

Obviously all insurance is not created equal.
What do you guys do on track days......I know...." don't fall off...."

Seems a bit short sighted when you want to improve your skills in a controlled environment you get this sort of response.

I'll have a whip around the car park and see if I can get $ 77.00 off each one.
Now lets see....using my Smith and ACC calculator thats....
    ....3000 divided by 77......= 500 motorists!!!!!!

As said, Honda Sure do as long as it is an HRCNZ Training day..... and you weren't out with the race bikes......

    Now, what do I do?
Only third party on my bike anyway.
I use the money I would spend on insurance to go to training days to improve my skills to avoid accidents on the road.

If I bin on the track, almost always it would be my fault, unless a muppet stuffs up behind me and takes me out. In this case I would be after blood.

The damage to a bike is generally less when crashing at a track anyway. No poles/ fences/ prized cows to hit.....
So, realistically it wouldn't be worth a normal excess combined with no claims bonus to even put in a claim.

Take your bike to Hampton Downs, ride within your limits, have fun, and you will be fine!
Remember there won't be a Learner driver failing to give way to you on the track....
There won't be unmarked road work on the track... (at least I hope not, already)...
Just keep your ears open for tyres and metal screeching behind you.....

Going for sure, just curious on what different insurances say.

Well, I have seen a rider highside his bike.... at about 90k.
Straightened it out for our rider to be out in the next race.

    The damage was really cosmetic.
Proves my point, there was nothing off the side of the track for it to hit.

Classic Insurance said " $3000.00 excess if used on a track"

But why would you want to take a 30 year old classic bike on a track day, its old technology and wont even keep up with the girls on 250's.
Take the new one, even if its 10 years old...

I'm with NAC. I was told you have to let them know the date your bike will be at the track, and on that day if anything happens it doubles your excess.

I went to a "have a go day" last year and I was covered by state because it was a rider training day, not a race day. But I'm sure you will get different answerers depending on who you talk to.

KB insurance for training days....15% cover value excess, which can be reduced for a fee paid in advance.

No cover for have a go days or timed events
