You know I think that we may be missing the point - The fundamental problem here is the people that we have allowed to manage the country for us. This Government (much like the last) is hellbent on pushing through their ideologically driven will with no regard to those who pay their wages and employ them to keep the roads in good repair. Now they want to charge us extra to support their own agenda eg. subsidise trucking so they can have rail in private ownership, subsidise sports so they can have kudos of world cups. Not to mention privatisation of ACC against (I think) the will of most of NZ's. Our "employees" want to tell us how to raise our kids and then pay organisations like barnardos to tell us how were all bastards for giving our kids a clip round the ear. Pour millions into their own organisations like CYPS to look after little shits who didn't get a clip around the ear at the right time (I know I used to look after them). Tell us we're just thick and ignore us because we want crims off the streets longer. What about when we said we didn't think we should have more MPs in parliament per head of population compared to the rest of the civilized world - NOTHING HAPPENED!!!!!
I reckon we should be behind the democracy march tommorrow as well as it affects us also...
When Nick Smith announces that "We have listened to the voice of the people and are only going to put rego's up to $500" You will know you have been shafted. And when it goes up another $100 next year and $100 the year after you can know that this was the thin end!
I'll say it again perhaps Guy Fawkes was quite a clear thinker!
Anne,
I have this really vague recollection from reading through one of the "bike parking in Wellington" threads, that someone claimed Wellington had a by-law which prohibited parking bikes in car parks.
I have no idea if Auckland has something similar, but Les might know.
If Auckland DOES have such a by-law, it might be an idea to have some planned response in the event that the parking Nazis (or other authorities) were to get involved.
I may not be as good as I once was, but I'm as good once as I always was.
Good thinking.
There's nothing here: http://www.aucklandcity.govt.nz/auck...motorcycle.asp
about bikes being prohibited, at all.
EDIT: I worry about the Westfield thing though - Westfield malls are private property. You'd only need on "Mr Plastic Badge" security guard to try to move a bike himself to start a riot.

Is that really the case in Welly? What a bloody stupid law. I hope they provide LOTS of bike parks (all over the place) as an alternative.
YEs well, getting in the news for the WRONG reasons is not necessarily the best way to get support, all you will do is piss off all other road users and give everyone including the government and the general public more reason to sting the motorcyclists..... I dont agree with your approach, all you will do is damage our reputation and give the media more ammunition. Grow up.
IF you look at the rolling protest road from Dairy Flat - they have the right approach - "we are NOT deliberately setting out to inconvenience the motoring public of Auckland. This is about making our presence felt and a chance to express our angst about this psycho levy proposal"
That is how we should approach this, we need as many people including the public on our side as possible.
Karel, are you denying that if we're priced off the roads we won't use cars as an alternative?
I think this weekend's activities demonstrate a fact.
I'm keen to come down to support, but my tires aren't in the best condition. Don't want to make us look bad by turning up to a protest on an unwarrantable bike. It does have a warrant and reg just a bald rear.
They do provide bike parks ... they also have negotiated with parking buildings for additional parks through the city due to the number of bikes now used during the week.
Doesn't matter that people think it is stupid .. they have to balance the on-street timed parking for others than motocyclists and it seems to work in their favour when it comes to protests like this one.
Life is a gift that we have all been given. Live life to the full and ensure that you have absolutely no
regrets.

The Bikeoi and the Mission bay protest both seem to have been very well received in the press - I dont see any issue with them at all.
Further - attending on Sunday will be my first protest action ever. (ohhh Im such a rebel).
Having said that - the Westfield thing I dont believe is as well thought out - and I dont think even the number of bikers needed will attend.
IF they did however - despite it being a public park - you cannot discriminate on someone's transport and as long as people were in there shopping???
Pfft - Personally - I think having groups of riders circling the block of Smiths home 24 x 7 (louder pipes the better) pissing him and his neighbours off would have more impact.
Anyway - hope to see 100's of you in Mission Bay Sunday.
Anyone going in a car willing to pick me up to go to this protest, pweeaasse there will be something in it for ya. Chuck me a pm.
Anybody keen to meet up at the Mobil Cnr Northcote and Sunnybrae Road before we head towards Mission Bay on Sunday? This will be my first ever Rally and im keen for some company. I'll probably be there at 7 am having a coffee and then ride out at 7.30am to Mission Bay. Txt me on 021-713863 if anyones keen. I would be excited to ride out in a group.
