see what the day brings...
I FEEL THE NEED, THE NEED FOR SPEED

I am a starter, so long as the weather is not terrible. In view of the mileage between fuel stops I will have to bring my 650, so would prefer we did Makiro one way only, the easier way - West to East, although I am sure I could find something to do while others go back again, and regroup at a suitable place.

Sh*t doesn't just "happen". There is always an a*sehole involved.
The track's fairly open now, so it's not bad either way. Doesn't look like we'll get much rain this week, so it should be a fairly easy run through there (famous last words).
Must be a bugger having all those bikes to choose from.
Ill be there Bart, is the day decided yet? not fussed either, i finally have a weekend Passand im not gonna miss out this time!
Its not how fast you go, its how far you go!!
are you planning lunch at the beach again?
this is such a cool ride
(my nana is getting over stimulated....)
that stuff around Waihoki Valley Rd - woohoo - roll on Saturday
Not as much fun as you might think. There is always something to warrant, register, clean, service or move out of the way. I would like to cut back - five is an absolute maximum in my view - and nothing wrong with fewer! - but this year got caught out with the opportunity to take over Merv's late Bro's DR and that cheap R100CS that needing rescuing . Since then I simply have not been able to (yet) bring myself to cut two loose.
Probably not much chance if the ACC outrage goes through, bike values will plummet (and I imagine the Vespa will be most affected, who will decide a scooter is a good idea when they cost more to register than a year's worth of fuel).
I was one of the few scooter operators I saw on the Bikoi last Tuesday by the way!

Yeah, I'm kinda getting excited about this too.
Looking at the tides, and it should be out when we get to Akitio. We could have a quiet tootle along the beach (no playing up in front of the township though. That really pisses off the locals).
If we make good time, we should be out there by 1pm. Might pay to BYO lunch. Your chances of a Latte and Panini out there are pretty slim.
Hopefully we get time to do Puketio road. I've only been down it, not up, so looking forward to that. Have to watch out for sheep, cattle, and goats on that one.
That's sad. They should be encouraging the use of mopeds and small bikes in cities. I just don't get it.
I did some sums, and I think it would work out cheaper for me to run the V8 to work and back each day, than register a big bike (if you'd call a 650 single big). Mind you, it's only 3km to work. And parking is NOT a problem where I work.
the weather looks pretty sucky for Saturday and betterer for Sunday
Bart - what do you think of delaying till Sunday?
FRONT MOVING NORTH TODAY AND SATURDAY BRINGS HEAVY RAIN AND SEVERE GALE WINDS
An active front is expected to reach the south of the South Island around midday today (Friday) and move onto the south of the North Island during Saturday afternoon. A very strong, moist northwest flow should spread over the South Island and southern North Island ahead of this front. Rain is expected to become heavy in Fiordland this morning, in Westland this afternoon and evening and in Buller, northwest Nelson and the Tararua Range overnight or during Saturday morning. Over a 12 to 15 hour period, up to 120 to 150mm of rain could fall in the ranges. There is also a chance that the urban areas of Wellington and the Kapiti Coast could experience 40-50mm of rain in a short period during Saturday.
People in these areas should watch for rapidly rising river levels, and in urban
areas, surface flooding is possible. Please keep up to date with the latest
forecasts and warnings.
Yep, I was thinking of doing this as I haven't been through Makairo in ages but I'm not likely to be there.
I just don't have the tyres for the aftermath of that.
