So.. what we need on public roads is 10 meters of run off either side and gravel traps on corners?

Came across this in my travels today
Austrilian Ad
The Australian Motorcycle Accident commission has launched a new campaign, entitled "The Roads No Place to Race", that highlights the risk of racing on the road.
It includes a graphic television commercial showing the obstacles potentially facing motorcyclists on the road, by cleverly merging crash footage from races with everyday traffic and obstacles including buses, a telephone box, a tree and post office box.
5 time Grand Prix world Champion Mick Doohan, who is fronting the campaign, said
“If I had faced the obstacles that are on the road on the race track, I would certainly not be here today. Race tracks are designed for just that – racing – and motorcyclists are not invincible on the road where there are so many dangers.”

Love the action shots, but would prefer to see this kind of advert on our TV:
"I am a licenced motorcycle instructor, I agree with dangerousbastard, no point in repeating what he said."
"read what Steve says. He's right."
"What Steve said pretty much summed it up."
"I did axactly as you said and it worked...!!"
"Wow, Great advise there DB."
WTB: Hyosung bikes or going or not.
That's a neat advert (the first one).![]()
Guess if it gets the message out there - all well and good.
I'm a fast rider - but we stay off the main roads, and pick alot of quieter roads.
Agree, if there were more tracks available, all the better.............
why does it always have to be graphic with the australians?
Why can't it be more like this?

Excellent, both of them.
In all email submissions etc, would the recipient (say Nick the Prick) watch a YouTube clip?
I'd like to send this one, with the message...
The vast majority of motorcyclists are sensible and go to great lengths to protect ourselves. Don't penalise us for the stupid actions of a few. Don't penalise us for poor road conditions. Don't penalise us for road safety structures that are not safe for us. Don't penalise us for the stupidity of other motorists. Don't penalise us for being vulnerable. Don't force us to dig deeper to protect ourselves and our fellow riders.
Lives and injuries will not be saved by high/er ACC levies. Except if less of us continue riding. We represent a valuable contribution in overall traffic infrastructure. We should be encouraged to continue, and helped to stay that way.
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?
This is one shown in the UK, that gets the message over in a very clever way:

Nice links Bob.
I'm surprised that the Australians are running an ad like that. The last couple of times I've been there everybody has been so law abiding. All these brilliant bikes and all doing just 100KPH...
This ain't rocket science.
Look at this UK advert from the 1970s.
I think it would help.
Instead we spend 000s on adverts saying don't so over 50kph whilst listening to the radio and not concentrating on the road.
How about "listening to the radio and not concentrating" is the problem rather than doing >50kph ?
They called it paradise, I don't know why.
Call someplace paradise, kiss it goodbye.
