    Talking Helmet rental please?

    Hi guys
I will be visiting my boyfriend in the North Island the week of the 20th - 27th December and we hope to bike around the Coramandel and camp. He has his own bike and gear but no extra helmet. I was really hoping to rent a helmet for the week to save the hassle of buying and then reselling one, but so far have had no luck finding one to rent.

    Does anyone:
    a) know of anywhere that rents helmets in the Auckland area or
    b) have a size Small (I'm a girl with a small-ish head!) helmet lying around they would be willing to rent to me for that week? Anywhere in the Auckland area, we would of course pick it up and drop it off from you.

    Any help much appreciated!!
    Thanks
    Lindsay

Are you going to borrow gloves, jacket, boots, and pants as well?

You are a mug getting on the back of some hot-boys bike with no safety gear on except a helmet.

Sorry, but it doesnt work that way.

    Can you read dickhead?
She never said he was hot, where did that come from? Your imagination?
Save the lectures on safety for dickheads who would vent explosive gas to the atmosphere etc.

    Hi Lindsay,

Waikato Rentals here in Hamilton (sorry, not in Auckland) rent bikes and helmets. You should google them and check out their website. Not sure if they'll just rent helmets but if it's not too far out of your way you can always ask

He could at least wait until she has a couple of posts under her belt before rolling out his trademark stupidity.

Thanks for your help guy, I didn't expect to get any replies!

DangerousBastard - I appreciate your concern for our safety, however viciously worded. There are certainly girls who will just hop on the back of a bike with any idiot who just got his licence and a fancy bike.
However, my man is an advanced driver with 10 years' experience. We are both experienced bikers and members of the Advanced Bikers (UK). We are also both emergency staff and have dealt with more than our fair share of accident victims. We certainly know enough to wear protective equipment. The issue for me is just getting the helmet.

    And yes, he IS hot!

Everyone else, thanks for your suggestions (and backing me up!) I will check out the place in Waikato. We have friends in Ngaruawahia so Hamilton isn't too far. So far most places have refused to rent gear without a bike rental, which I can't afford right now *sob*

    Keep the suggestions coming!

I wasn't showing concern for your well-being, I'm just puzzled how you already have $500 worth of safety gear, but hesitate at buying a $120 helmet? Makes no sense to me. I don't think you have full safety gear at all.

I strongly suggest you go scrape your knee on our nasty tar-sealed road and see what it feels like first, before you crank off on a holiday with a pair of jeans, a windbreaker, and a borrowed helmet.

Anyway, I'll stand up for your rights to wear whatever you choose.. so DO have a a fun holiday! The coromandel is a grrreat place to explore.

And don't call kiwis "vicious". You will find they will speak their mind in a forthright fashion, and you are not used to that then you are in their country so thats your problem. You will also discover, in the same breath the same people will drop everything and run to help you, should you have any problem whatsoever, even if that problem is all of your own making.

Do us all a favour, by bringing yourself up to speed, before pulling onto the motorway.

Thanks DangerousBastard, for proving yourself an idiot by completely contradicting everything you have just said about the kindness of Kiwis with your attitude. If you could read, you would see that I was clearly not calling Kiwis vicious. Just you.

Seeing as you have absolutely no clue about me and further, I can't see why you care seeing as you have nothing to add to my initial query, I have no intention in engaging in any further conversation with someone who so clearly has a chip on their shoulder.

I would certainly hope that should we have the misfortune of crashing, that we will not have the further misfortune of having you come to our aid as I'm guessing you're all talk. You've proved your manliness by coming into a forum with no intention of helping someone who has asked a friendly question, and picking on a 20-something year old girl. Classy mate.

Thanks everyone else for your answers. I really appreciate it, and I think have got my problem sorted. I don't intend coming back to this forum because I have a feeling the abuse will be heaped on me by this one guy spoiling it. I love your country and I'm really looking forward to my holiday there - I do really think Kiwis are the nicest people in the world. Give us a nod/wave when you pass us - I'll be the girl with no helmet, wearing a bikini on the back of the Gixxer 1000 driven by the newbie biker going 220km on the wrong side of the road - haha! lol!
    Thanks again
    Lindsay
