Been a few years since I landed on my back. Worst part was the bike landing on top of me and the tip of my tail pipe pinning about 2mm of my scrotum into the ground while the rear wheel spun around on my chest, could of been heaps worse! Only ended up with a small burn to the sack, and a totalled pipe and radiator hose.

I know I'm probably overthinking all this because Buffstar is a mate, but I wonder whether it should be included in briefings as to the appropriate positioning for a fire extinguisher. Also just the basics if you're the first to arrive at the scene of an accident! I know that we took Buffstar's helmet off when she had her last 'off'. Apparently you should never, never take off someone's helmet in case there's a neck injury! We just didn't know that! I've now also been told don't move them at all and to wait until someone qualified comes along!

Mini MX is coming down hard on what to do when a kid comes off. Ambo guys have been speaking at the last few briefings. Very important to not move them or try & pick them up which is often a reaction with parents to just grab their kid up to get off the track.
If they can get up themselves then thats all good let them.
I know with Roadbike accidents the only time you should remove a helmet is if its making it difficult for them to breathe or if they're not breathing & need cpr. Otherwise leave on.

As for fire extinguishers perhaps it should be outlined where best place is to put one but really at end of day its personal choice i suppose - people know the risks, choice is theirs.

I wonder if people are reading into it a bit much. You could put the extinguisher on the front guard or some other place and then find that a huge impact from a jump causes it to launch itself into your face or some other thing. Like the rest of life, sometimes stuff goes wrong. Unlike the rest of life there is a lot more inherent risk with dirt bikes so when it goes wrong, it goes horrific.

But I wouldn't swap the thrills for anything

I do hear what you're saying & realise there are risks but somethings are more risker than others.
in my eyes there would be a greater chance of falling off & landing on an extinguisher when its on your back than there would be of it coming off the front guard into your face.
Thats why i don't think you can tell people where they have to carry it but think that knowledge of the risks can go along way.

I must admit I did cable tie mine to my hydrapak at the last ride.
But usually I wrap in a towel and its in my backpack, my hydrapak also fits in the backpak.
I think if I have my armour on and its wrapped in a towel it would be a good effort for it to damage me.
I had a good look at my bike last night and think it would be pretty easy to fit it inside the rear gaurd under the airbox cavity.
Right now its on my handlebars, which I also dont like.

My extinguisher is wrapped in a thick foam cover I made, but still...
Busted and even cracked ribs stay sore for months and months. Wonder why that is?

Is Buffstar home for Christmas? Although it hurts to move, need to get the blood flowing for good healing, go for plenty of walks.

I wear a pressure suit with an armadillo back, I'm hoping that will deflect most of the punishment should I land on my camelbak which has a tyre pando aerosol inside.

FlyingCR was good to loan me one of his extinguishers which I taped across the handlebar. The bars do not have a cross brace. After I washed the bike and removed the bottle I was horrified to see 2 deep gouge marks in the light alloy casing, caused by the bolt heads holding the bar clamps down. They look pretty deep and I reckon I was fortunate they didn't penetrate deeper. If they had I would've had a very nasty surprise.

    Yeah damn this silly rule.

I drilled 2 small holes in my front guard and bolted the bracket on and cable tied the extinguisher on too. Its not hard to do and its not in the way.

I knocked off my extinguisher that was cable tied to my crossbar with my sternum at the paparimu ride....I'm never putting it there again as it still hurts. I then strapped it to my camelback but after reading this thread I'll give that a miss next time too. I think next time I'll make a foam surround to mount it vertically on the front light/number board.

Its fairly easy to mount an extinguisher on the KDX. Pop it down behind the head light and secure it with cable ties.

A less intrusive spot would be to sit it opposite the muffler. Just need to make sure the rear wheel is going to clear it once the suspension compresses.

    Any update on her status?

Yeah, just called Buffy and they're letting her out! She was only meant to come out for a few hours Christmas Day! She wasn't having any of that. She's had all the pain relief pulled out and is waiting at this very moment to get out of there! She'll probably do the next update! She's in heaps of pain still, but the best medicine is getting out of Middlemore! Go Buffy!!!
