    Just buy it for you...

Don't buy something for anyone else.

If it takes your fancy and you can afford it just go for it. They're all just bikes.

IMO the whole "don't buy a 1000cc you'll kill yourself" talk is absolute bullshit. If you have the mindset you already have everything you need.

    raises an interesting point there

i have seen a few "questionable"moves on the Wed Nite Rides but never dreamed of waving any big sticks or making any kind of fuss, preferring to get away from the riders concerned and letting them have their crash in private.

If there is a system in place re : policing and upholding of any standards,i would like to know who administers them, just for future reference.

Well thanks for all the advice people, will take all of it into consideration when i make the move to the next bike Although i'm only riding a 250 at the moment i have actually been riding since i was 14, but i never got around to getting my full licence and have only owned small bikes and i haven't had a bike for the last 12 years. I thought that while i get my confidence back i'll start off again with a 250. For my height and weight I probably wouldn't get anything bigger than a 650/750 and something in a small frame too. I'd also love to give bucket racing ago one day too, it looks like a right royal bag of fun to me! I'm enjoying riding with the experienced riders on wednesday rides, following their lines and seeing how they ride. Its a great way to learn what to do and... ahem... in some cases what not to do...

The views expressed above may not match yours - But that's the reason my Dad went to war - wasn't it?

    I heard that.

After 18 odd years with five bikes with the basically the same motor.

I needed a change, so had to kiss a few frog's until I got a Swan.(Duck does not sound right here).

Yes I really do like this bike more than the others.
But having done 9000 K's on the Duck to date.(not bad in 3 months one week)

I may have to trade again.
Or buy another bike to share the K's with.

We just did 800K's ride yesterday and was SDU's longest ride.
And a big thanks to miSTer and R1maddness.

My advise to a new bike is.
Make a list of what you like and than talk to people that know about them. (older guys or gal's that have been riding for more than a few years)
Listen and listen, to what could be good and bad for you.
Test ride and think is this bike to much for ME at the moment.
Then talk and listen and think with your head and not your ego or dick.
Feel the fear and do it anyway

    Don't confuse education with intelligence.
There are alot of highly educated idiots out there.

Oh ffs. I'm getting sick of all this bitching and moaning and trolling. There's nothing wrong with an awesome wheely now and then as long as you're not putting other riders in danger!! Which leads me to my next point: If when on these rides someone does something that really upsets you (you're afraid for your safety) then we can talk to them politely and say "hey, could you not do that near me again?" Afterall, we're all human. We all like a thrill, but we all have our own boundaries

You missed my point... at your age and HWFM, pay attention to what the elders say, we been around and seen it all ya know... like I posted ride safe learn slow go up in CC's and make it to my age then doing a wheelie like I posted is no more unsafe that riding in a straight line.

IMO its les safe for a greenie (but learning well) like you to be flunting ya self on what is one of the fastest bikes on the road/hills than it is for a old cock like me doing a wheelie in a empty road with no one watching. (you do relise the young think cos you handle a R6 so can they)

Stop right there... who the hell do you think you are Dave "your rides" ask me to leave... not possible, you sound like lama solo? loan rider... do you think you are a gang leader some one important... ya not just like me... get over it man you will find it more relaxing.

The roads are free for anyone to ride, and dicks wont last long and thats with out even having to threten them like you just did me. You are young and green man... but a hell of a good prick aswell.

So just for you dave... when you grow up (takes 100,000s of kms and decades) you to will be able to do this... and this

Damn your getting older and wiser by the day... Dave should follow in your foot steps man.
Dont worry about the "bitching and moaning and trolling" its actually helpfull, no point in hiding the truth from up and comming riders, and it is the net, and being on this thread it will be taken in and riders will learn the easy way rather than not reading it and ending up in a heap.
Agree with ya commenting on someone that thretens ya safety.

yeah IMO a older 600 even a VFR400 as next bike something that is easier and cheaper to repair... should the learning curve take a bump. And bucktracing is great for learning to.

I'm with you on this one D. As a learner absolutlely green to bikes, I want to be told straight up. I went riding with some WNR's on Sunday and one told me my lines were shit (Thanks Bren). I have been on WNR since Augast and usually ride in the middle somewhere yet no one has pointed this out before and to be fair I have never asked. My point is if I am seen doing something wrong or making bad choices I want some of the experienced riders to tell me and pull know punches. I would sooner have it this way than lose my head on a right hander!

I also got you point D. re when you put the k's under belt you will be able to ride like this...assuming you can be patient and hold to the wider learning curve instread of cutting corners. I am only a learner on a motorbike it doesn't make me some idiot that thinks if he see's a wheely I am going to rush out and try it on my self.

Not everyone has the confidence to do this and besides someone you barely know saying to you that your riding is crap, you wouldn't take it very well! Ok, I know I wouldn't!! That person may not know what you are like, what your attitude is to riding etc but thats the great thing about the Wed night rides is that you can ride your ride and eventually someone will tell you to pull your head in but you will take it in your stride.

Even putting the km's under your belt won't automatically make you a better rider. I've put about 4000km on my bike in the last 2.5 months but I don't believe that makes me a better rider than anyone else who has done any more or less. In my opinion it's about your attitude and your willingness to take on board what people are saying that will make your riding better and of course safer!

Same here! I have seen someone do a wheely past me and believe me it's not something that I really want to try!! It does look cool, but not for me!!

very correct... its taken me 27 years and I still learn every time I ride, the day you stop learning is the day ya end up in a box.
In your case KP 4000k in 2.5 months is impresive, BUT what that can do is have you repeating bad habbits... ya need the break and time inbetween the kilometers.

tupelo... LOL you do ride like shit, but think about it, you have started at the deepest of deep ends, never riden in ya life and you buy a bike and ride dunedin to chch, I amazed you made it. Thats ok tho cos ya have to start somewere. Im not sure how to help due to your choice of bike, the body positing I like to promote wont work the same, or maybe it will, duno never spent much time on a cruser, IMHO a hard style to learn on. But keep listening and learning and like all those willing you will make it.

NB: body position has a serious lot to do with how you corner, its not just about lines. IMHO

You are right that you do learn something everytime you ride!!

Thats why when I ride I ask people to keep an eye on me and give me some advice if they think I need it!!
