Actually you're not allowed to ride motard style unless you're in a motard only class.

Well, it was just an idea to try

. Could have been fun or maybe I would immediatley realise it was a dumb idea.

I couldn't find that rule in my MNZ 2009 Manual of Motorcycle Sport. Do you have a reference please Skunk?

I've seen Rossi and Stoner do it so it must be OK for GPs. I did a search and could only find a rule for the Cemetry Circuit that is not too specific: "the riding style shall be in keeping with the class entered".

Sticking your leg out in front of someone coming through on the inside, you might find that you come in for a bit of flack from other riders who percive you as trying to block their line in a corner. At Mt Wellington it usually ends with the steward giving you a sharp word about creating a hazard or if your unlucky someone riding over your foot or leg.

Another thing I've wondered about is this. We get told that if we crash, we need to return to the pits and get the bike rescrutineered. Somehow its OK for a MotoGP that is capable of over 200 mph to be remounted and continue racing. Why is that?

I guess that depends on whether the bike is remounted and ridden or returns to the pits and repaired for the next race. That's how it seems to happen at most meets I've been to.

the leg isn't the problem
it's the throwing the bike sideways infrount of someoe and cutting them off

Now that is a good point!!!
Maybe it is to ensure your track protectors are still intact.

You can still do that with both feet on the pegs.

When the leg is used as a counter-balance it goes towards the front of the bike and does not stick out much - the elbow and shoulder would stick out more. For some riders it is the knee that sticks out the most and could cause more obstruction than a leg forward IMHO.
