I'd allow 45mins round trip up Altimarloch, watch for wind gusts. It's well worth the effort, it's a great track and the views are fantastic. See you at the Caltex

Is it worth entering the Molesworth from Taylors Pass Rd? The road looks like a curly one from Renwick end. The side trip is something I would like to to up Altimarloch. Both Aslan and I will be crusing this area Thursday arfternoon, quite possibly we might run into each other somewhere...So, keep to the left..

Definitely go over Taylors Pass rd, it's a well maintained gravel rd that is a great ride and is also a lot more direct into the Molesworth valley

being a somewhat slow 'senior' I'm just catching up with this flurry of activity - happy to ride either Rainbow or Molesworth - alone or with Mark aka NZKTM and anyone else on the proviso I don't get into Picton till 11.30am earliest so reallistically expect to leave Picton noon Thursday.

I salute MattsDakar for initiating Orari Gorge excursion on Fri and would like to be part of that. I'm unsure how far I'll get on Thursday evening and prior to MattsDakar's initiative I was planning on riding via Lake Lyndon Road out to Methven.

Getting excited - a 60 something year old big kid - cheers all Aslan

The weather forecasts are just starting to get long enought now. It looks like there will be a bit of rain on Thursday morning but clearing by Friday and the Saturday and Sunday will OK overcast but dry. This would be perfect for the Dusty in that it might no be so Dusty

Forecasts I'm watching are Metview, Metservice Canty Plains and Metservice Central Otago. I trust Metvuw more hence my prediction as Metservice is predicting sunny Thursday, showers Friday and Satruday and sunny Sunday. Fingers crossed Metvuw is right!

    Cheers R

The 3 of us will be leaving Mot about 9, after a liesurely breakfast of croissants and coffee on the deck, heading through the Rainbow, I figure we'll be there about 10:30

Good call there. I have found metvu to quite accurate last outing (where i got drowned and windblasted). Hopefully they will be on the money this time...
