The tag was Tokanui Psychiatric Hospital
"The hospital buildings remain derelict, and the site is not used, though parts have been fenced off for grazing. The 50 or so staff houses are rented out, and the sewerage system which used to be run by the hospital is presumably still in operation to service these homes. While most valuable items have been removed, large amounts of copper spouting remains on some of the buildings. Other materials which may be attractive to thieves are still in place, as none of the buildings have been demolished. Health hazards also exist, namely asbestos insulation. Because of this, Waikato Security Services security guards watch the area "
Hmmm, funny I knew someone who used to work there when I was living in Auckland - I had no idea the place was in the neighbourhood! Amazing how places like this have been allowed to just fall apart.
Another fine mess.
Clue: Know afence?
Another fine mess.
Both the folks used to work there. I used to tag along on the outings they had for the kid patients when I was a wee lad as well. Went to cool places and the folks could look after my sister and I at work. It certainly made me learn quick on not judging people. All the staff say it was absolutely daft they closed it. Patients loved it there and they had heaps more freedom.
The new tag I have an vague idea because of the newness of the sign but that's my only idea.
I know where it is...I know where it is............![]()
