Write-up on this in todays Dominion. (On-line version http://www.stuff.co.nz/dominion-post...e-motorcyclist )

They seemed to make a big deal of the "powerful" bike he was riding. Used it's name "Hornet" almost in a perjerative way.

Also, they used "motorcyclist" instead of "biker" to describe the rider.

(They seem to use "biker" in a story that's "good" - like "bikers raise cash for charity" and "motorcyclist" where the story is "bad".)
Measure once, cut twice. Practice makes perfect.

I think the worse part is, that motorcycling is in the spotlight yet again..............

Nope. The worst part is that there is a dead rider, be that for whatever reason.

May the bridges I burn light the way.

I think there was no need to see the smashed up Hornet in the paper.

I see they've also reduced the size of the bank he went over, now down to 10 metres (was 15 the other day)

I live in Johnsonville, and at ~4pm the place is getting busy. People cross the street inbetween the 3 traffic light controlled crossings. Max. 35kph is the fastest I travel at unless it is quiet then 50kph is fine. Otherwise you will hit a pedestrian sooner or later.

I am amazed the police blasted through there at "under 100kph" at that time.

I'm not sure I agree about increasing fines causing more runners. I don't know if you have the time to calculate the fine. Runners probably just think "my bike is powerful enough and I can ride well, so I can lose the cops".

I'm not condoning the rider's actions and I feel sorry for his friends and family.

I'd like to know the chase criteria the police use. The end result is a dead rider and lucky no innocent bystanders hurt.

RNZ news this morning was talking about making a three year jail sentence part of the penalty for doing a runner...idea borrowed from the Ockeralians I believe...

That makes perfect sense. Once you've started running - no fucking point in stopping until you've gotten away clean or killed yourself.

When will these tossers realise that just instating new more comprehensive laws with tougher penalties does not work?
