    Rear sprocket supplier?

I need some advice, I have a 2008 CBF250 F Honda . It is a NZ new machine, I bought it with 5000ks, now upto 12,00 and I 've just replaced the tyres. As the original chain was showing the end of its adjustment, I decided to replace it with a good quality chain and throw on a new set of sprockets.

Unfortunately Honda dont stock a replacement rear sprocket ( 37teeth), One from Japan $180, the aftermarket suppliers for NZ dont stock anything under 40 teeth according to the local Honda dealer. They can get one in from the states in about 6 weeks for the same price as a genuine Honda sprocket. Replacing the front 13 tooth is no problem.

The original sprocket still looks good so I may just stick on a basic chain and run with that.

The bike only puts out 22hp and I dont thrash it at all. I'm pissed off that an item such as sprockets which wear out regularly cant be scourced for a 2 yr NZ new bike.

Does anyone know if the dealer is correct in saying after market sprockets of 37 teeth are not avalible?

If you could live with a lower geared bike you could go with a rear sprocket with more teeth

Withn the standard gearing, The bike is doing 7,000 revs at 100kph. I dont really want to gear it down any further , in fact I had thought of raising the gearing slightly to drop the revs a fraction. Trouble is there, it has stuff all guts below 5,000 revs now,( due to the pc exhaust) and raising the gearing would mean even more cog swapping than now. Have sent an e mail off to Honda Australia to see if they hold a sprocket in stock.

Anthrax; I believe going to a 14t front will make a bigger difference than dropping a couple of teeth on the rear, Still worth a thought tho' Another thing that pisses me off about Honda, is I queried a replacement exhaust system cost in case I ever needed one. $1900 from Japan, for 1 metre of exhaust pipe and a muffler!!!. Would hate to price a system for Honda;s biggest bikes.

    CBF250 2006 - 2009 http://www.bits4bikes.co.nz/parts/honda/2070.aspx

    Assuming it`s the same as a F (for Faired ? ), there`s a picture with measurements there.

If so any bikeshop should be able to get this for you from Whites wholesale 37T shows in stock

Is there any number written on your sprocket like (254)

I can only find the #37 on my sprocket. But the measurements are the same as best as I can make out. Tomorrow, I will take the rear wheel off and get the presise measurements. Thanks very much for putting me onto bits4bikes website.

    Std 13:37 = 2.85
    14:40 = 2.86... not a difference you'd notice.
    15:43 = 2.87

For most bikes at roughly 1:3, 1T on the front is the same as 3T on the rear.
    Cheers,

Have a look at the J.T Sprockets site , the online catalogue is a brilliant tool.
