    Importing goodies for DR650

Having just imported a few goodies for my DR at good savings on local prices was thinking about bringing some aftermarket goodies for resale ie Bash Plates, Oversize Fuel Tanks, windscreens etc.

Just trying to guage what the demand would be.

As an example good quality aircraft quality bash plates for around $170 NZ and fuel tanks for around $370.

    What do ya reckon?

hey countryguy, sounds a good idea, have you got an oversize tank on yours at the mo? if so what brand/size etc and is it a good fit? i could be keen on one,
also want a screen (like the screens for bikes item best so far) and bashplate, and a pipe, although prices for nz stock on pipes seems ok

$370 for a tank would be an IMS?

The tanks are Clarke, available in natural or white, capacity listed as 3.7gallons.

The bash plates are 'Mongoose' brand I think made in the states, very easy to fit with drain hole for sump and no vibration. Appear to be very well made with quality fittings to attach to frame.

Of course prices depend on exchange rate but might take the plunge and get a few goodies in and see how they go.

    3.7 US gallons = 14.0060236 liters
That's only like 1 litre more than the stock. Most of us who swapped out tanks went for 18.5 litre IMS or bigger.

    3.4 gallons stock.

Yep. About 20km further than the stocker.

Do you have a pic of the bashplate?

Most seem to be happy getting in bits from overseas themselves.
To make a go of it you'd need a big customer base and a big bankroll.

    That's the Utah Sports skidplate.

The B&B seems to protect more (higher up behind the header).
My GPCustom from Dunedin covers about the same as the Utah Sports.

Main reason you saved money was that private importers on a small scale don't pay full taxes & fees, don't have inventory costs etc. Soon as you are operating commercially and/or importing commercial quantities, you'll have to charge the same (or more) that everybody else local charges to cover your increased costs.

But don't let that stop you
    Cheers,
    Colin
