    Biker to Biker courtesy

I'm a newbie, just gone 6R. I don't get to ride during the day but I've been getting out as often as I can on these nice evenings to experience different roads and traffic conditions. This evening I was coming onto the Auck harbour bridge from Onewa Rd just as it was getting dark and the big flashing arrow trucks were shutting down the two left lanes. I'm trying to merge right with cars coming onto the bridge approach at 100 + and trying to pick a gap that my awesome 250 acceleration will get me into when I spotted a bike in my mirror, to my right and a little behind. A bit hard to pick out against the car lights but he was there in the centre of the lane and easing off, slowing up the line of cars behind him and making a big space for me. Thanks that guy/girl !

The point that I trying to make is that in a city where you are lucky to get an inch out of a car driver, I've been noticing how much courtesy bikers show to other bikers. Awesome stuff !

Welcome to motorcycling. i think that's one of the things I enjoy the most - the camaraderie and recognition of each other in an increasingly uncaring and insulated world.
Don't blame me, I voted Green.

Welcome to KB and some of us are a receptive lot,

I even wave to all bikes - even the snobby harley ones that don't wave. (I growl them for being rude too)

I think we all often let each other in from one lane to the next. Also, if a bike comes up behind me while I'm lane splitting I'll pull into one of the lanes and let them past.

But I've found a few very slow, nervous lane splitting riders lately who won't let others past. They just want to stop and start in between the two lanes even when there is plenty of room. Be nice if those riders could pull into one of the lanes and let faster riders through.

(by faster riders I'm only talking up to around 40km/h, I'm not one of those crazy guys going much faster. but I'll still let them past).
