If you can't afford to lose it, then organise before hand what will happen. If not, they should assume you're insured and only have to pay an excess (which of course they should do for you).

    This. Definitely.

    Yup, protect yourself first.

Ahhh, cheap insurance.. ain't it grand. You can get a policy that includes everyone 25+, if you have a lot of mates who ride it might be worth the extra $$$... I mean, you'd only spend it on blow and hookers anyway.

Unless you get them to sign an agreement beforehand saying that.
Ahh, I think they were talking morally, rather than legally.

Personally, I make sure I'm insured for anything I'm driving/riding and I'll pay the excess if I bin it.

Not that easy. It's more than just the excess - after all, if someone crashes your bike and are found responsible for the accident then your premium is going to go up as a result of their blunder. This wouldn't be problem between mates trying each others' bikes since both people would be running the same risk but that symmetry does not exist between buyer and seller. Likewise, it wouldn't be a problem if the crash was to be caused by a third party. For a buyer I'd require a cash deposit equal to the value of the bike. If they fuck it up they can decide whether to buy it for that amount or have me hold on to whatever it costs to get it back to the pre-crash condition.

As Big Col said, there's a big difference between private and dealer test-rides too. The above would apply to the private test-ride.

Yes, but the insurance is tied to the bike - i.e. the seller - not the person riding it. Best thing to do is probably have the person riding it get an insurance policy for the bike setup in their name covering them for the test-ride... most insurance companies will be happy to do this I believe.

What is this thread really about? Is it about getting fucked off at people or is it about a rational look at the problem?

If it's your mates' bike, then understand you put your friendship at risk when you do this. If you can reconcile that, then go for it. If you can't, then don't. Shit happens.

If it's someone off the street and you don't know them, don't want to know them, don't want to fuck them, and don't want to buy the bike, then walk away.

If it's YOU selling YOUR bike, then get cash in hand before rides.

If this thread IS really about getting fucked off at people you disagree with, then what about arguing about cash-in-hand before rides and red-repping fuck out of people about that? Excellent jihad potential there.

Either way there is substantial cause to get fucked off yet again, KB styles. It's funny, really.

Reason I ask is we lent a horsefloat & it got written off , was warranted & regoed but not insured......
I lent it K to my brother...he dropped in on a driveway (parked facing downhill! WTF?!) and the rule was it comes back as I lent it. New clutch assembly ex-germany...$1000 fitted, OUCH! Could've been worse.

What about premium's increasing though? It's all good and well for big damage, for a small accident of my brothers (that was at fault), mine was going to increase by $250 per year. I said he had to pay in full to avoid that but it was a pretty small claim so not much in for him.

That depends on who is holding the firearm.

Pays to have it noted by your insurance company that it is being sold and may be test ridden and ensure they cover you.

Not a bad idea to put an dual signed agreement on paper (pref 3rd party witnessed) stating who is liable for what pre-test ride if insurance wont/cant cover the owner.
