Lots of people have plates like that. If you were stopped, I'd just look downcast at the officer and tell him you bought the bike from a bike shop like that, and then offer to "have the problem resolved promptly".
There is always the chance you get some long arm 'o the law on his bad day, but otherwise I think you will be fine with it.

"What Steve said pretty much summed it up."
"I did axactly as you said and it worked...!!"
"Wow, Great advise there DB."

The plate is not checked as part of the WOF process, anyway.

Why bother posting up something you know is illegal, and bag those that do not think like the nice policeman you have imagined in your head.
Ride your bike down to the local cop shop and ask them what they think.
Then answer is known.
Good luck.
My opinion.
why give anyone a chance to have an issue? It's an easy one to resolve, so go do it

I'm not bagging anyone who's made constructive comments. The reason I posted it was to see if any of our esteemed members who work in either the vehicle licensing or law enforcement professions could provide me with information, but they all must be working.
Oh, and most policemen are nice, to me anyway
Now thats a good suggestion, I can have a good perv at the same time too![]()
This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine. My signature is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life. Without me, my signature is useless. Without my signature, I am useless.

a bike i had for 8 years had a non standard plate. cops noticed it a few times when i was pulled over and mentioned it but never did anythng about it. never got mentioned at the wof station.
I have a modified number plate and have never had any problems.
Lots of things to do with motorcycling are like this - we just do it and no one really cares. It's not exaaaactly what they meant when they wrote the law, but as long as it doesn't really affect anyone, they let it go.
Case in point - if ALL motorcyclists deliberately went out tomorrow and rode past speed cameras at 230 clicks and gave them the finger, they will change the law so you have to have a license plate on the front.
Case in point - if ALL motorcyclists went out and hardcore lane-split everywhere to within 99.999% of the grey area of the law, and scared hell out of everyone, you KNOW they will make a new rule, don't ya.
So do what you like but just keep it in check, and no one cares.
