    I was 10.

And I didn't know the difference between bikes - I just knew I wanted one.

I remember the year well ! I came home from working 16 hours one night to find the wife had emptied the house (apart from the logical male shit, like tools and 17 stubbie crates of home brew)
I got a call from her the next day saying she'd left me (no shit, i thought we'd been robbed, pass me a tui !!!) and that i should advertise the house and sell up !
One call to an agent i knew and he had it on his books within hours, next day (48 odd hours after she left) we had a cash offer which i relayed to her and she agreed to sell, return call to said agent and the paperwork was ready a day later (72 hours after she'd left i had the shit signed) settlement date was one week from then, so i had some work to do (borrowed a fridge and loaded the home brew into said fridge) and a few calls to make !
That night the pitter patter of childrens feet was replaced with the stomp of a doz hob nailed boots and the scrape of beer crate chairs (and the odd shatter of borrowed glasses) !
Just so happened one of the Hob nailed wearers had recieved a 100k redundancy payout that week !

96 hours after my wife left me i was in wellington motorcycles saying get that one down !!!

I rode off into the sunset on my American dream, a 1990 1200 sportster !

3 Months later (no idea of them hours) i woke up to a taiwanese nightmare (but thats another bedtime story)
A girlfriend once asked " Why is it you seem to prefer to race, than spend time with me ?"
The answer was simple ! "I'll prolly get bored with racing too, once i've nailed it !"

    Bowls can wait !

In 1990 I was 15 and saving for A GSXR250 along with trying to convince my father to; a) let me and b) contribute. Sure there were RC30's, GSXR750RRK etc that I desired, but being of a learner age there was no way that was going to happen. Didn't stop me going to the car yard down Moorhouse and lusting after the RC30 they had there.

I lusted after an RC30, or an OW01.......in 96 there was an tidy OW01 in New Plymouth Motorcycles, for $12k, I think (Shaun will know, he was working there at the time), but I had a house, a wife & family and no money. Next year was different, but the bike had gone........

Must have been your Drool Stains in Eric Woods that I was standing in when I was checking out the New GSXR250....
Was trying to convince them to give me a good trade on the MVX at the time..... They also had 18 RG250's in there too... I'm not kidding!!!

Anyhow, my dream bike at the time was actually the RC30....

Would have been worth the investment...
