I think it would be more you would be stoping to get rid of all the coffee you are drinking that would be your saviour.

I am of the opinion that the open road speed limit in NZ is 80kph anyway, I always laugh when I am going to visit my Mother about the "slow down", "speed kills" signs, chance would be a fine thing really

Unfortunately, a minority of riders treat the road with a race track mentality — we have recorded bikers riding at speeds of 130 mph.
And I'm sure it's only motorcyclists that have ever broken the speed limit on that road.

Short of closing the road, we couldn’t see any viable alternatives to the average-speed cameras to reduce the number of casualties along the Cat and Fiddle.”
I'm actually interested to know how many casualties there are along the stretch of road, anyone know where I could find that out?

Well...that too, now that you mention it...

I would have to say though, that when I ride to Raglan for a coffee in the mornings, I always get home faster than I get out there...might be goal approach behaviour...or it might be the caffeine hit...

They already operate a fully telemetered vehicle tracking system on all major, and many minor roads. You will see the green boxes near intersections, they are about 600 high, 800 wide and 350 deep.

They currently track trucks using the weigh-in-motion system. This records the axle weights of vehicles as they enter and then depart an intersection, enabling any individual vehicle to be easily tracked.

This is already operating, but only used on trucks, at least thats what they say.

    See http://www.nzta.govt.nz/resources/tr...e-highways.pdf
    and http://www.nzta.govt.nz/resources/st.../SHTV-2002.pdf

And have a look at the future - already planned real time tracking of you just awaiting introduction (its only for trucks yeah right)

Save a copy, I doubt they will stay on-line for ever.

You seem to misunderstand how these are used in the UK and will be used here. They are not for safety on the roads you mention, but will be on motorways where a lot of the time doing 120kph is usual - SH16 into the city for example. If anyone has driven into London from the M4 / M11 you will know the frustration of them putting DOWN the speed limits then putting many cameras and average speed cameras in. Outside of peak hours with an empty road ahead just craaaaawwwling along ... (and not very safe either this form of driving)
