...and more to say.........I've done 3500k in the last 7 weeks and that's having some days off - like today

The new shipment of Ninja is now at $8495.00. When I first looked about 12 months ago they were $7495.00. Mine was the last in stock in Nelson for $7995.00

Should I wish to sell my bike today I would be asking at least $7000.00 and if my gear were to go in too, well I'd be wanting at $1500 for all that. Not gonna happen anyway I love my wee Beast far too much to part with it. We will grow old together

I notice a few around now for just over $2K.

Inflation and market forces. You can't buy a new RG or FXR in NZ today so the situation is not the same as with a Ninja.

Rather than using a formula; perhaps we could agree that an overpriced bike is one that is not likely to sell at the asking price anytime soon/ever? It's subjective but so is buying a bike. With this in mind I think we'd mostly agree that the nominations put forward are indeed overpriced.

Would you have bought it if you saw it for sale 7 weeks ago?

i had this same thought when i was looking for my 250 - why are so many of them at or so close to the price of the bigger (and better) bikes?? I found that the ones that really were overpriced just didn't move. they'd be there week after week and eventually the price would slide down. The 250 market is pretty 'expensive' but the flip side of that is that when you eventually sell your 250 (as I am looking to do shortly) you will likely recoup much of that cost and be able to upgrade with minimal extra cost. No point moaning about it as everyone is in the same boat.

No I'm not. A bike is worth what someone is prepared to pay for it. Until they go to sell it on, then it's worth what the next guy's prepared to pay for it.

The value of a bike that's not for sale is relevant to the person owning it.

The value of a bike that is for sale is relevant to market forces.

I think the Ninja I linked is overpriced because it is unrealistically close to the price of a newer, unused, fully warranted machine. And therefore priced closer to the owner's estimate of worth than the market's.

But I'm happy to admit I could be wrong... if it sells for $7k.

    Bet it doesn't though.

for sure. 250 bandits around the same age/mileage as my 1200, are often advertised at a similar price to what i consider mine to be worth, if not more!!

no. by your own logic if you paid a million for it today it WOULD be worth a million until you sold it, then would be worth what the next guy is prepared to pay for it

    your words, not mine

There are three others listed at the same price. One has higher kms.......

Others are within $500 and probably after a quicker sale. If your 20% rule applies every year, people would be paying you to take their vehicles. Not what you meant but still.

You do'nt even own a bike yet, so i'm guessing have little knowledge of the bike market, what bikes are worth what with certain suspension mods etc, so you are hardly a good judge for your own thread it would seem.
Cats land on their feet. Toast lands jamside down.
A cat glued to some jam toast will hover in quantum indecision

Curiosity was framed; ignorance killed the cat

Fix a computer and it'll break tomorrow.
Teach its owner to fix it and it'll break in some way you've never seen before.

Schrödinger's Cat doesn't really work in quite the same way. I like the quantum mechanics thought experiment analogy on KB though.
